This "Anniversary Edition" situation is hilarious and sad.
I wake up earlier today to see the news that there is some new anniversary edition for Dawn of War 1 and 2, I read the press release on the steam store like everyone else thinking maybe it's some sort of mild remaster that's combined all the expansions into one launcher and maybe adds native widescreen support to Dawn of War 1. I take a look around my library to see that absolutely nothing has changed, and I'm confused, as I see many others are as well. This "anniversary edition" is nothing more than a store listing change. I don't know what's going on at Relic, but calling a store listing change an "anniversary edition" after years of silence about the state of Dawn of War is dishonest, incompetent, and an insult to your userbase who has spent years playing these games. The fact that you have people confused about what this even is, asking about mod compatibility, when the games didn't get any sort of an update at all shows you did not think any of this through at all.

Bib chives :>

Tho not too bad of them to simply bundle all of them together.

Yeah its not really a proper anniversary edition but at least the ones who didn't buy into all the games and dlc now get it all for free.

Not sure how it works.. my DoW2 edition updated to it but my GOTY version of 1 has stayed the same.

Ironically I can only access DoW2 and chaos rising from the new edition of 2, so it's basically a copy of the Chaos Rising version of the game which I already had.. not complaining though since I can double achievement hunt it if I feel like it.
Retribution still needs to be launched from it's own game.

DoW 1 is the same way, if I want to play Dark Crusade or Winter Assault I have to launch them separately.
I thought they would have all been combined into the original game like Chaos Rising was.

yea this is honestly a joke, I dont know if this is just an attempt to capitalize on the success of Space Marine 2 or what, but calling a steam store page update a 'major update' while the only thing actually new being the fan made backgrounds not even work for everyone shows this was basically an afterthought for whoever is still pulling strings forthis game.

Still no modern resolutions which is something you'd EXPECT from something calling itself the 'anniversary edition'

Aye I'd love to have a better resolution option for the first games, DoW 2 at least has my preference but the first games don't.

From what I remember, Dawn of war 2 and Chaos Rising were always accessible from within the same game after Chaos Rising released. This is not a new update. This has more to do with the fact that you can import your vanilla Dawn of War II save into Chaos Rising.

I just reinstalled this (only had Soulstorm installed because it's the most complete of them all) to see if I could launch every campaign from a single install now... nope! That's what the news item on the store page said, but I don't see it at all. It's now called Anniversary Edition but it's still just vanilla Dawn of War. What a joke.

Not sure.. last time I played DoW 2 I had to play the Chaos Rising version to get both campaigns.
The time before that I played DoW 2 in the original version and im pretty sure there was only the vanilla campaign.

I checked and I was partially wrong. Chaos Rising had the launcher for both Dawn of War II and Chaos Rising itself, it has for a long time, but what Relic has done is just copy pasted the entire Chaos Rising game over DoW2 vanilla. You can see the title screen has Chaos Rising logo on it exactly the same as the Chaos Rising EXE has. This is really puzzling as now the original Dawn of War 2 release is just completely gone, and you effectively have 2 Chaos Risings in your library now, they even have the same steam achievements.

thing is the dlcs didnt just ad factions
core game mechanics where changed to accommodate the added stuff in the later editions
so yea unless they reprogrammed the entire thing your not going to have the soulstorm stuff in winter assault
and it would be silly to reprogram the entire stuff
you got every other edition for free along with it anyway so who cares
im happy i can play dark crusade again, since that was the best version
while keeping my soulstorm version for mods, since thats the version the mods use

only downside is making scrolling down the game list in steam a little longer

I agree WTF is this.

I agree with most people here, the advertising of it is incredibly bad and false, though what we are getting is nice which is bundled games basically for a low cost, the advertisement being all of the games rolled into 1 anniversary edition + new and fun additions while clearly not being the case is genuinely awful.
