[FIXED] Fatal Scar Error

Basically the game is not compatible with present setups. An error (fatal scar error) will often occur in many campaign missions on the opening cutscene that freezes the game and there is no way to correct it. The devs don't care and won't help. Just don't buy the game, it's dead and nothing can be done. It happens in every campaign from all the expansions.

This error ocurred at multiple specific times on DoW, WA and DC making the game unplayable. Deleting and reinstalling clean, verifying files integrity or using mods won't work. Apparently, no one actually knows what causes this and how to fix it, but it has something to do with my system.

If you google "fatal scar error dawn of war", you will see that there are other people out there with this problem, and apparently no one ever solved it.

This was solved for me only by restoring the entire computer to factory settings. What was causing the error was fixed on the reset. Error never occured again in any of the games.

If you read this thread, sorry about all the angryposting bellow. Yet, i still think that the company that owns this title IP is unresponsible for not giving any support or creating a patch when the game was released on steam, fixing existing reported errors like that. They still get money for the game and don't care if it works or not. My oppinion won't change on that.

I will try this, but could you give me a hint on how to configure this way? It's in the options menu?

There are multiple reports of this happening to other people, not a single one got it to work.

just keep reloading the saves that you have and skip the cutscenes. i've only seen it when modding and skipping objectives to do later ones, it messes with flow of the code (1 thing to the next then the next)

for example, tau stronghold in soulstorm, if you use your pre-built army to destroy all the radars meant to bring in more tau forces before setting up your base, that error will occur. you can actually continue playing, just save while the error is showing then reload to that save and it'll work a bit, sometimes it doesn't though.

to end, don't say "The devs don't care and won't help" since this is a really old game from a company that isn't around anymore. as well, the game isn't dead, the community is still quite big with a very large modding side.

This happens in Winter assault, Chaos first mission, either at the end of the first cutscene, or immediately if you skip it.

Observation:

-The game has been installed clean a few minutes ago
-It has no mods
-My setup is: Windows 10, SSD, Intel i7 7th gen, GTX 1050 TI and 16 RAM GB

I wonder what broke it for me. I had been playing it fine earlier in the year and suddenly it just stopped launching. I had put it down to windows 10 updates but Giorno Giovanna is using windows 10 too and it's working, so it's probably something else.

I had that issue precisely once when I had a mod loaded. I uninstalled the mod and the error never came back. Now if I can figure out how to fix the music not playing that'd be great.

I went to the install folder, clicked Engine folder added a new folder titled Data
Game runs fine now.

I don't think they would do a good work, we don't have a good RTS since Starcraft II, and this is 2010.

anything that's stopping you from playing the game is a you problem, most others are having no problems with it

I dunno a lot of us are having problems. For me the game was running fine in April 2022. Then in June i tried replay it again and nope. I can still play Dark Crusade and Soulstorm though, so at least there's that.

Which is clearly a software problem on you side. Not saying it's your personal fault, could be OS auto-update broke something, or GPU drivers problem. Thou it's definitely not game's problem.
