Could you please send a copy of your game log and player profile to support@defiantdev.com along with a link to this thread? Details on where to find both files are in the FAQ thread under "Where can I find my game log?" and "Where can I find my game profile?" respectively.
Has this always happened, or was the game previously working for you?
I think we can get you up and running by disabling Steam cloud temporarily, deleting the broken profile from both the local Steam cloud cache and the Hand of Fate 2 backup folder, running the game, and then re-enabling Steam cloud.
Step 1: Right click on the game in your Steam library, select Properties, go to the Updates tab and untick "Enable Steam Cloud synchronisation for Hand of Fate 2"
Step 2: Locate and delete the player_data.profile file from the folder listed under the "Where can I find my game profile?" section of the FAQ thread
Step 3: Locate and delete the player_data.profile file from the local Steam Cloud cache. It should be in the following path, replacing "[your-steam-uid]" with the numeric ID of your Steam account (unless you have used multiple Steam accounts on this computer, there should only be one folder)
Step 4: Start the game and play until after the end of the first encounter (Forest Ambush)
Step 5: Close the game
Step 6: Right click on the game in your Steam library, select Properties, go to the Updates tab and tick "Enable Steam Cloud synchronisation for Hand of Fate 2"
Step 7: Run the game again and select "Upload to the Steam cloud" from the Cloud Sync Conflict dialog when Steam asks which version you want to keep to upload the new profile to Steam Cloud storage.
Let us know how you go!
