I thought all the cards being failure cards was like a scripted event but it wasn't meaning that it ended my game without any warning! There are no other options available other than to play cards with him so this blocks my progress+heavily irritates me because it was at the end of the level.

I can copy a card or rechoose but none of them matter if all of them are failure cards for some reason.

It's called The Devil challenge for a reason, Lord Apollyon is the devil and cheats you.
So you have to get the potion from the gray wanderer to get a blessing that grants one huge success to shuffles that don't already have one.

There is something else you have to do to get the gold token but I wont spoil it.
Although others here are quick to spoil it unless the you specify that you don't want spoilers.
So unless you want to figure out the gold for yourself be careful with the comming posts.

The Devil is a special challenge. Don't worry. It's a short level, and easily replayable.

Fun fact about the devil challenge. If you fail on any challenge that's not the last one (Which it does one shuffle I believe in every one of them, I intentionally failed a couple to find out) it just reshuffles the cards, and he briefly 'apologizes' at you for the inconvenience. XD
