Report a translation problem
As far as bases go I've setup my base like this and it works well against strong "rangers":

But in base raids you'll need to wall off your base so that they get funneled into one entrance, otherwise you'll get picked apart fast.

Basicly when i get the warning that attack is imminent i close up the gaps with buildings, but dont actually build them. Then after the attack i cancel them to allow my people to work outside the camp. Only enemy thats tricky to deal with is Dark angel, because of the greater range. they all use compound bows and i just line them up in the trees behind the barricade.
You should try a more "in-game" approach like my base layout and you'll be fine. If you watch more closely all rangers will have to turn around tha corner and be in range of ALL my rangers at one time, so the odds are more in favor of the defenders than the other way around.
That being said FAs are one of the strongest units in the game so they *should* give trouble to your survivors!
It'd be nice to be able to start over in a better positioned location... :-]
