Issues with Dark Angel
I've been playing for about 20 hours now, and i really enjoy the game. I've been playing on the Challenging difficulty and after i encountered these guys a few times i have learned to deal with them. I'm aware that combat is next on the list to be overhauled, and there are issues with it in general, but i want to share my 2 cents anyway.

The main issue i have with the dark angel is that it has too much range, and a very hard to notice attack. When i start encountering these i generally have composite bows for weapons. But because the enemies trigger as a group and the range of the Dark angel is bigger then the vision range. They start really doing a lot of damage, but it's almost impossible to notice the attacks. Like i said, after a few times you know what to expect. But i feel it's a really not a
great design for an enemy.

Do you find it difficult to fight them on missions or at your base?

As far as bases go I've setup my base like this and it works well against strong "rangers":

When I run into ranged heavy groups in missions I tend to place my own ranged survivors around a corner or something to create a kill zone. Without proper line of sight those ghosts/liches/angels would have to come much closer to attack.

But in base raids you'll need to wall off your base so that they get funneled into one entrance, otherwise you'll get picked apart fast.

Nah, i dont actually have any real trouble dealing with them as i said in my original post. It's mainly that when you first encounter them, they will absolutely pound your survivors, from outside visual range, and with a very hard to notice attack.

Here is an overview of my base, kinda hard to see because i couldnt take a single screenshot of it:

Basicly when i get the warning that attack is imminent i close up the gaps with buildings, but dont actually build them. Then after the attack i cancel them to allow my people to work outside the camp. Only enemy thats tricky to deal with is Dark angel, because of the greater range. they all use compound bows and i just line them up in the trees behind the barricade.

I see, but that's just an exploit of the game building mechanics (btw: didn't know you could that).
You should try a more "in-game" approach like my base layout and you'll be fine. If you watch more closely all rangers will have to turn around tha corner and be in range of ALL my rangers at one time, so the odds are more in favor of the defenders than the other way around.

That being said FAs are one of the strongest units in the game so they *should* give trouble to your survivors!

well, i could finish the building, technically the only advantage of this exploit is that i dont lose the resources for 3 barricades every attack. I like to think of them as gates, and for the purpose of base defence offer no benefit in any way. Im playing on the hardest setting, and around 13-15 enemies spawn in(usually 3 FAs, 4-5 demon/legion/werewolf/hellhound/succubus, 6-7 Caort/reaper/ghost/lich. I really like the way you set up your defence. Im still running almost exclusivly Compound bows. I wonder if i should focus all my efforts in the first 40 days to just get weapons and armor. I'm at a point where i cant do much more then gather food and water. Scavenging is quite far away, and i get a 100% strength attack every 2nd day. I've taken every possible awarness reduction. Part of the issue is the bad optimization, ive got a very good pc, but on these attacks it drops to 1fps when i unpause.
I wish in the future they'd allow us to move our base to some other "cleared" square on the map.
It'd be nice to be able to start over in a better positioned location... :-]

I was thinking they could add vehicle crafting to the game, that way late game you can travel faster.
