Some of the people who got the game early must know right?
While that would be amazing have to say I'm skeptical.
Not to impugn the honesty of you or your friend of course, it could simply be a misunderstanding on his part, since its just the beta afterall.
Maybe, maybe not. Remember the selling point of the game is the ability to change history. So they might have added more slots this time to try out multiple paths.
Xeno 1 had 8 character slots, after you beat the main story to unlock more than one. (Though I would be very pleased with even more).
For reference, 8 slots was enough to make one character for evert Race/Gender combo in the game if you felt like it.
The game had 5 races and 8 genders, so 8 slots gave you the option to make 1 of each character type. But the game was a 1 and done kind of deal. Whatever progress you made on one character was shared among all characters, so there was no reason to play the other slots.
Xenoverse 2 seems to be changing that, as some quests and their rewards are exclusive to a specific race. And we have the option to make changes to history and play through different story paths.
I've also been told that each character will be able to play through story mode normally, instead of having to run back to the time nest every time. But, again, I haven't been able to confirm this personally.
So expanding the number of character slots makes sense, both for replayability, and for the new options we'll be having available to us.
8 Character Slots
You also do not need to finish story line to create more characters. Each character has to go through the story mode, so story mode is character based instead of account wide this time.
Edit: I checked while i had it on character select (for how many character slots are available) on PS4 just now and tested making another character last night.
Well the 8 slots are disappointing, but I'm really glad the story is character based.
