You can co-op with friends online on Parallel Quests (Online PQs Reception Desk) and Expert Missions (Time Distortions).
Does one need to complete missions solo first in order to unlock co-op? Or can I just do the whole thing with parallel quests without playing the solo game much.
I get that the pq is separate from main story line. I just find it lame if I have to play through teh game to unlock all pq's and can't just play them and unlock more of them as me and my friend complete them.
Yes, you need to advance Story to unlock PQs.
Each chapter you complete in Story unlocks the first PQ related to it, then you unlock the following PQ by beating the currently open one and so on. There are also a few PQs that are given by NPCs in Conton City. In short, for each Story saga you finish you'll have several PQs to do with your friend.
Story mode is generally easy and it's quick to complete.
When you look for PQ lobbies online, you can also join and play PQs you haven't unlocked yet and get their rewards.
