(Make sure your mechanics can actually reach the ride exit and aren't tired first, as that's usually the issue instead of a bug)
Mechanics not assigned to a zone will accept random tasks in any zone, which means they spend 99% of their walking around, either to complete a task on the other side of the map, or because they are without tasks.
I had a big problem with rides not seeming to get repaired which was due to a couple of mechanics who weren't assigned zones. They'd get assigned repair jobs on the other side of the map, meaning rides regularly took forever to repair. Assigning these mechanics to the zones with the most rides in them instantly solved all my problems in this regard.
Also bear in mind that tired/overworked staff will head to staff rooms during which time they won't handle any tasks either. Make sure you have staff rooms dotted liberally about your park. Otherwise the tired workers again spend most of their time slowly trudging from one end of the park to another.
