Is the ferris wheel completely useless?
Hey everyone! I'm loving the game. I just had a quick question...

Every time I place a Ferris Wheel in my park, it instantly becomes the center of attention and fills up its queue no matter how long I make it, and it takes SO BLOODY LONG to draw from the queue that lots of people get pissed and leave, which (I think) lowers the park rating.

The slide has a similar problem with its capacity for only one guest. I guess I'm just sad that I can't have these iconic attractions in my park without them trashing my ratings. In theory I could just build them and not connect them to the path (or leave them closed) for the visual appeal, but it seems like a waste.

Anyway great game :)

The ferris wheel is not completely useless: It is still nice to look at.

Joke aside, making the queue shorter so people will do something else instead of waiting for the wheel helped me.

see e.g. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1722997319

Note that the queue is just 3 tiles in this build.

Alternatively, you could add TVs to the queue and zone a few entertainers, but making a shorter queue is easier.

Like already said. Keep the line short...
Entertainers can work but the tvs don’t do anything... they are decoration items...

Every ride has is own characteristics.

The Ferris Wheel is one of the worst rides (maybe THE worst), because the main quality "theoretical customers per month" is just 11 ... no kidding.
That means a queue of 30 people takes longer than 3 months. :cozycastondeath:
You never get the even meager investment sum back.

If I place it I make the queue exactly 1 tile long. Not more. Not even 2.

In the end it is an extra ride and each ride attracts visitors to the park.
It also helps to place the entrances and exits at the centre on either side of the ride like this:

_X
_X
EXE
_X
_X

The X's are the ride and the E's are the entrance and exit.
This way the guests don't have to walk as far to get to and from their seats.

Thanks guys :) I never actually thought of making the queue shorter xD

I came here to ask about this because the Ferris Wheel I just placed seems to only take two guests, then rotate an entire rotation, then add another two guests, then another full rotation... on and on until its filled up and *then* it does a single rotation and they all get off. To me it seems quite broken because even after all this, the test results have not updated, so its like the game thinks its never even run. Hopefully the developers will look at it and adjust it so that it will either just fill the whole ride in one go or will rotate just enough to fill the next seat, until all full and then rotate. Otherwise it seems really borked.

I usually put NO queue on this ride (no queue line, just the walkway right up to the entrance), wait for ANY, and leave the wait minimum and maximum to 5. Shortest possible. If the decoration is very high, you can charge upwards of $3 and people will love it, constantly being used but not having a long wait.

With the 1.4b update it has turned into a much much better ride.

An even good one considering the very low investment cost (which still isn't displayed anywhere ... just saying :steammocking:)!

So most of the tips above are outdated. Just use it normally now.
Though I think rounds can be set to 2 and it still works fine.

Exempt from 1.4b patch notes: "- uncursed the sadness factory (updated ferris wheel loading procedure for shorter cycle duration)"

Since the update, whenever I use the ride, it now has rain protection with no cover around it at all. Seems like a bug?

Oh that is interesting. I filed a bug report that no matter how much I cover it (up to completly indoors) I NEVER get rain popularity perk or be secure from thunderstorms...

Wow! lol I guess in general, its relationship with rain is "complicated."

Wow! lol I guess in general, its relationship with rain is "complicated."

Given that you are usually protected by the Ferris Wheel structure itself (and the seats within), it kinda makes sense for it to have rain protection "built in". It will also help the ferris wheel to shed a little of it's "sadness factory" image.

I don't understand this since the seats are open to the elements entirely. Prior to this, it was very difficult to have rain protection for it as you needed to build a structure around/above it.

Same here. The gondolas have no roofing.
Prior to 1.4b it was possbile to completly shelter the ferris by building a structure around it, which now only gives a slight rain protection.
@ rancidl: I don't get it that your ferris wheel is rain sheltered by default now and mine cannot be sheltered at all anymore. I think you are from Earth 2 :steamhappy:
We need Sebioff to settle this.

Maybe it would be cool to allow upgrades to flat rides!
Like enclosed gondolas for Ferris Wheels against rain or air conditioning for Monorail to give them the heat popularity perk.
