If You're Having Achievement Unlock Issues:
I've got news for you son
We've got 99 bugfixes
And oh God jk we only have one

This fix is primarily for users who received the 1.24 update as a patch. If you did your first download/install after that update, then achievements should be working normally for you.

From what we can tell, the issue with achievements not triggering comes from bad persistent data - essentially, if you got one of the patches from Steam, it might have messed something up related to the files that Steam checks to award achievements.

So, if you're having a problem where you're not unlocking any achievements, please follow these steps to do a totally fresh install. As you'll see, this requires you to wipe your saves (hey, at least we're not breaking them ourselves this time) and restart. Therefore, we recommend that you go ahead and finish playing through the game normally, then doing a clean install for the sole purpose of unlocking achievements using skip mode.

1. Delete the game
2. Turn off Steam Cloud saves
3. Go into steamapps/Highway Blossoms/game/ and delete the entire saves folder
4. Go into Users/<your username>/AppData/Roaming/RenPy/ and delete all saves related to Highway Blossoms. AppData is a hidden folder by default, so you'll need to enable hidden folders
5. Reinstall Highway Blossoms

If you installed the adult patch, you'll need to reinstall that as well.

For OS X:

Game Location: "~/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common"
Saves Location: "~/Library/RenPy"

If you're not familiar with terminal, take those paths and in the Finder menu, choose "Go -> Go to Folder...". Paste the above into the box that comes up and it'll open a Finder window to the right location.

well I got all except the lemmy face.. and for that one, I "followed the instructions" of the famous thread here, but still no luck.. So do I really need to redownload when this is the only "missing" achievement? Because no, I don't know what i did (wrong)...

For the Lenny achievement: Please open your game folder to where you installed the adult patch and find the document called lenny.rpy. Open that in a text editor like notepad and change "persistent.lenny = false" to "persistent.lenny = true"

The patch is supposed to do that by default, but we've had reports of it not working for some users.

Thanks for the Help.. But -- it didn't help.

I did that. By the way, I noticed 2 files. Lenny.rpy and Lenny.rpyc. The 2nd file is not ASCII but something else...

And just a sidenote "true" as mentioned is not valid - instead it gives the game a nice and shiny error screen while starting.

While running game code:
File "game/lenny.rpy", line 2, in <module>
$ persistent.lenny = true
NameError: name 'true' is not defined

"True" on the other hand let it at least start but the Achievement didn't pop up for me. I did since then a full "auto / skip" rerun of the full game ... still nothing so far. Check file integrity of the game... All fine... It's a bit of a bummer such a "small detail" is the last remaining open Achievement for me.

//edit

Nevermind.. Solved it with the solution mentioned above in the first post, delete all savegames, and cloud saves, deleted the game, installed it anew and place the "specific" file back where it belongs.
Start up and "ping".. Tadah.. thanks again..
And now I'm finally happy and keep the lenny face smiling..

It didn't work for me. This folder "renpy" isn't Appdata directory in my machine. I found it on game's folder. But I didnt found any saves there. I followed all steps and nothing changed. Actually, all the saves remains there when I run the game.

To delete all saves and persistent data:

If you're on Windows (Should work for 2000, XP, and all newer):
- Open Windows Explorer
- On the location bar, type: "%APPDATA%\RenPy"
- Delete any folder starting with "Highway Blossoms"

If you're on OS X:
- Go to Finder
- From the top menu bar, choose "Go -> Go to Folder..."
- Type in "~/Library/RenPy"
- Delete any folder starting with "Highway Blossoms"

If you're on Linux:
Obviously, too many tools to cover, but go to "~/.renpy" using what tool you feel most comfortable with. Delete any folder starting with "Highway Blossoms".

Only one that didn't unlock was "Slow and steady...". Still can't get it to unlock even after following the steps here.

So apparently this triggers once the story is finished if you ever set it to that setting prior (if not after the story).

Is there any other way [through the game, without resorting to 3rd-party tools] to unlock the “Slow and Steady” achievement? Because hoping it’ll unlock once you finish the story doesn’t cut it for me.

I’ve played through the game once, having set the text speed to a low value for a bunch of messages somewhere along the road. Nothing at the end, just the other [story-related] achievements.
I’ve then noticed that “Speed Lover” didn’t unlock either, so I deleted my save files as described here. “Speed Lover” unlocked fine afterwards. “Slow and Steady” did not, even after several tries [i.e. run-throughs skipping all the messages].

My last hope was that it would unlock after restarting the game [i.e. ending the process and running the game again], as was the case with the “Special Eyes” achievement which popped out of nowhere one day, but nope. Still nothing.

Hell, I even tried without the adult-content patch. No change.

So… any reliable way to unlock “Slow and Steady”?

you can try this:
1. deactivate Steam Cloud
2. export / delete your savegame
3. verify game cache files
4. the extras menu should still be open, otherwise you can of course use skip all for a full walkthrough
5. set the Speed below 10 characters per second

it should unlock just by setting it to this speed, otherwise make another new game...

So, after no luck again, I searched the web and found this tread: https://steamcommunity.com/app/451760/discussions/0/1327844097127192715/

The important bit is in the first post:

So, yeah. Try opening the CG Gallery, if “Slow and Steady” won’t unlock.

First of all, you can't just idle. The goal is to play the game in "real time". If you aren't there to move the plot forward when the next segment would happen, it's basically paused.

Also, if you're gonna avoid games like this, then you're missing out. Play the novel for the story and wonderful art, not to crow "I got an achievement!" that means absolutely nothing and don't affect your status in any way.

People play games for different reasons and with different goals. Personally, I like to 100% my games (no matter if it's a VN or a platformer or whatever) so I get annoyed whenever devs put in impossible or troll achievements. Many people won't care about this achievement and that's fine, but it's just a slap in the face for anyone who actually enjoys achievement hunting.

So, I really don't get why these troll achievements have to exist. Casual players won't care about them, achievement hunters will rightfully feel trolled and annoyed (especially if they bought the regular version before and 100%ed it earlier). Nobody wins, some people lose. And all that for a stupid Desert Bus reference that most people won't get. Was it worth it, devs?

I've left a negative review and other people who care about achievements will undoubtedly do the same. I feel it's right to warn other players that one achievement is basically impossible to complete unless you like wasting time and play by the devs' stupid rules.
