Starting out, a Beginners Guide

I've been playing for a bit and noticed that some of the setup steps of each Tier of mining equipment aren't quite as obvious as they could be.

Without further ado, the steps.

Tier 1
So, you find yourself standing in the road next to a truck (it's yours btw). You have $250 and no clue what you're supposed to do to start things off.
Pressing [Tab] gets you some help, as does pressing [Esc] but there are a few things that you might want to know before driving over to what you think might be your claim (it isn't yet - you need to rent it first)

First climb into the truck (from either side works) and press 'z' for a list of controls for it.

Drive into the town in the direction the truck is facing, over the railway line, and into the entrance to the Equipment Warehouse on the right.

You will want to buy;

• Hog Pan Sluicebox Core
  
• Hog Pan No Pump
  
• Bucket
  
• Hog Pan Mat (2 of)

That's the basic list and later you can swap out and add parts such as;

• Hog Pan Pump (replaces Hog Pan No Pump)
  
• Jerry Can
  
• Water Hose Thin
  
• Hog Pan Sluicebox Extension
  
• Hog Pan Mat (2 of)
  
• Water Pump Small
  
• Water Hose Fat
  
• Water Filter (attaches to Water Hose Fat and stops dirt getting into the Water Pump)

Many people skip this step and go straight to Tier 2, however doing so, unless you're lucky, means you'll be continuing to manually pan for gold using the pan and tub in the tent on your claim. Once I could afford it I went with the above along with;

• Wave Table
  
• Mobile Generator
  
• Jerry Can
  
• Power Rope Thin
  
• Water Hose Thin (that makes 2 you need if bought with the list above.)

This increased the speed at which I was actually getting gold as the Wave Table is much faster than doing it manually.

Having selected your equipment, go to the cash register and pay for it, then go outside and load your purchases onto your truck... I hope you're good at Jenger or Tetris.

Head back out onto the main road and turn right. Not to far up on the left is the bank. Go to the bank and rent your first claim. Now comes the fun part of getting to your claim. Check the map and carefully navigate your way there trying not to lose any equipment out the back of the truck. If equipment does go for a tumble, simply stop the truck and get out and pick it back up... You may need to repack the back of the truck.

Once at the claim, drive up to the Tent and Camp Fire. Your first dig area is behind the tent, next to the river. There's a wooden outline where you need to place the Hog Pan Sluicebox Core. Placing items is a simple affair at this point. Simply pick up the item you want to place, get relatively close and a prompt will appear allowing you to place the item. Do that for the Hog Pan No Pump and the two Hog Pan Mat's as well and you've got yourself a mining operation.

Hit '<' or '>' and you should switch to the Spade or hand held Flashlight. You also have a head mounted light controlled with the 'L' key.

Dig the soil that's a different colour to the rest and dump it in the Hog Pan (There's a 'Use' action on there so use that rather than the less efficient alternate function of the spade. Once at 100% full or near enough, fill the bucket with water from the river, then use the now full bucket on the Hog Pan.

Now comes the grind. Repeat the dig and rinse steps until both Hog Pan Mats show 100%.
Fill the bucket with water, then rinse one of the mats off in the bucket (rinse it 4 times to get all the gold off it and into the bucket).
Take that bucket into the Tent and put it on the table (Warning: There is a bug with the floor in the tent! Do NOT put the bucket on the floor unless you want to struggle to get your bucket back!)
Grab the big metal Tub and fill it with water at the river and then take the full Tub back into the Tent.

1. Pour a bit of the Gold Mud Water Mix into the Pan on the table in the tent.
   
2. Take the Pan to the Tub and Carefully! lower into the Tub.
   
3. Raise the Pan back out and gently! shake the Pan until the water is as murky as you can make it.
   
4. Lower the Pan carefully back into the Tub. The water in the Pan will slowly clean itself.
   
5. Raise the Pan back to the surface of the Water in the Tub and gently angle the Pan away from you slightly!
   
6. Gently drag the Pan away from you, then just as carefully drag the pan back to you. The aim here is to get the big chunks of soil off the pan while leaving the gold nuggets on the pan (caught by the ridges on the far side of the Pan) Repeat this step as needed.
   
7. Switch to the Gold Collection mode and pick up all the Gold Nuggets.
   
8. When you've got all the Gold off the Pan, Exit from the Tub interface and refill the Pan from the Bucket.
   
9. Repeat these steps until the Bucket is empty, then go and rinse off the second Mat and do it all again. (There's a reason I got the Wave Table ASAP!)

Eventually you'll have collected 1.04 oz of Gold and suddenly you'll get a screen prompt and you'll have 40oz. Don't go mad with it though as it's a choice between Wave Table or Tier 2 mining equipment at this point. Getting the Wave Table doesn't delay getting to Tier 2 by much, and it cuts out the hassle that is manual panning.
Either way, you'll want to take that Gold to the Blacksmith in town and have them melt that down into a bar (gets you far more money than selling the Ore).
Now take the bar you got from the Blacksmith to the Bank and sell it. (I have noticed that the Gold prices do actually vary as though it were the real Gold Market. I have no idea when the best time to sell actually is, so you may want to make more than one bar at the Blacksmiths and only sell what you have to in order to buy something and keep the rest of the Gold Bars for later, although that would still be somewhat of a gamble.

Whether you go to Tier 2 or simply extend what you've got of Tier 1 you'll want to fuel everything up at the Petrol Station before heading back to the Claim Site.

Once back at the Claim Site:
Remove the old Hog Pan and put in the new one with the Hose attachment.
Place the Water Filter on one end of the Water Hose Fat (The Red one) and place that end in the River.
Attach the other end of the Red Hose to the Intake on the Small Water Pump
Attach a green Hose to one of the small outputs on the Water Pump and the other end to the New Hog Pan.
By now the Sluicebox Extension and Mats should be simple to set up
If you've bought the Wave Table (and if you're not going to Tier 2 why on earth wouldn't you have?) then it's fairly straight forward to set up, except you now have the Mobile Generator to setup and connect. The only thing you really need to be aware of that's not immediately apparent is that there is 2 switches on the Wave Table; 1 for the Electricity and one for the Water and unless you've got a bugged version, the Water switch is next to the water connector and the power switch in on the opposite side of the table (same side as the power plugs in). If you've got a bugged table then;

I just got this game and was trying the tutorial. In stage 2, it has you purchase a diesel powered water pump, 3 large hoses, 1 thin hose, but when you get out to the parcel, It tells you to place one of the fat hoses at the highlighted area, but there is not a highlighted area. It also does not tell you to purchase a hose filter and I see all of the youtube videos talking about having a filter.

It means to attach it to the water pump then either from the "in" point goes to water and the "out" hose goes to the fat hose connector.. and yes the tutorial doesnt mention a filter but it does help. and when you get to the bigger pumps u wont need the filter with it. Also a better way to start is to not even do the hog panning other than the first time the tutorial tells you to.. after that just keep feeding dirt into the hog pan pump even after its full because youll get alot of nuggets from it and even quicker.. also this guide is older and also console isnt up to date with PC.. so depending on what u play can make a difference.. like some guides tell you to rent a drill on day 2 and drill your whole lot till u get all the nuggets out.. unfortunatley xbox and playstation u cant get nuggets from drilling yet so dont try that lol. but on PC it is awesome. u can get 600k atleast to start the game.
