Though definitely make sure that the buckets are actually attached to the machine. I've seen some cases where they detach from the machine when partially filled after reloading the game and not wanting to attach again unless they were empty.
And this specific part of the washplant definitely doesn't make more than 50 % of the gold, so there must be something else. As for the dirt make sure to not only look at the overview, but also at the layers you're digging into. Sometimes you've to dig through a significant portion of dirt with barely any gold in it to get to the more valuable dirt. It makes sense to put this dirt to the side to not waste too much time with it at the washplant.
