Multiple drill holes per grid worth it?
Hello. Perhaps it was mentioned some time back but I could not find a specific answer via search...
Can drilling multiple holes in a grid square reveal additional gold, i.e first hole reveals 250, then a second hole reveals another 400 making total 650?
If not, is there a true utility to the additional holes besides knowing the depths at that specific spot?

well some sqares are not completely "full" of gold some of the 16 possible drill spot per square can be dead dirt. Usually the gold deposits follows a quadratic sheme over several squares and are not aligned with them, so the edges of those squares might be dead.

The extra holes don't make more gold in the ground. The amount is the same if 1 or 4 hole per square are drilled. The extra holes just make the shown gold total more accurate.

Myriculus above is correct.

Note the more accurate gold total per square is not that help full as you only recover a percentage of it, depending on how efficient your equipment is (Which Tier) and Workers are (Skill level).

Just dig the darker gold colors first and leave the gray stuff.

So, if I am reading these right, if there is (an example) 1000 gold in a grid square, drilling one hole might only show 400 of it when I click on the grid? Drilling other holes may show 700 or even 1000?

spare your time with drilling and dig out whatever comes ;-)

Only on Old Arnold but it makes sense even on Arnold if you want to mine the better ground first.
So don't tell rubbish!

Well mining the gray squares on pine valley yields about 1,5kg Gold per Clean out on T5, while the dark golden gives me around 10kg of gold. Maybe spare your time mindlessly digging and start drilling ;) Of course i removed the overburden top soil beforehand, just to be clear.

Yes

Sorry if this question has been answered somewhere else, but could not find any.

I'm planning to dig out EVERY inch of a claim, so does it make sense to drill in this case? Does drilling spawn extra gold in a square VS not drilling at all?
I don't care in which order I get the poor/rich squares.

Drilling only spawns gold in form of nuggets you might get while drilling (assuming they are on) rest of time it has no effect.

And AFAIK only Old Arnold is worth going for full strip mining. Elsewhere gold is bit more concentrated so you would lose on fuel etc while hauling worthless rocks to wash.

No. The drilling does not change the ammount of gold, but with more drills the number gets more precise. Its easy to check in one of your save games, just check the amount of gold listed on a specific square after 1,2,4,12 drills... it gets more accurate, but whatever it lists is always an estimation. If you are trying to calculate efficency numbers the more accurate reading will help, but if your only intention is to know how good the square is it is enough to just drill the center of the square.
