even at tier 2 (mobile wash plant) i am getting dirt from the "rich" area of gold and i only get 2 - 3 oz per bucket. i do cleanups of 20 buckets at a time and get 55 - 65 oz
its just a big grind of a game. i found having the lucky find (cant remember what its called) where you find nuggets to help boost you is a vital thing but eventually it seems to stop.
What i did was use hog pan and then replace that with the one that uses the water pump and get the extension. then spend 2 - 3 days there (in game) and you should have enough money for a mobile washplant with the luck nugget finds, i took a loan out to get the big digger but you can just use the small one if you want to save up without using the loan
I'm not 100% sure of this but I suspect we see the same issue with hogpan dirt as with the main claim, in that it's better to dig from the top down than to dig from the base of a pile of earth, the reason being that when earth 'falls' from the top to the bottom of the pile it is actually deleted and recreated (not moved) by the game, with little or no gold in the created earth. So (if you don't already do this) try to dig from the top down rather than undermining the dirt to see if that makes a difference.
My fastest start on normal has been to buy the small water pump, large hose, and hog pan core w/ pump top along with 2 mats. I hit the gas station right after and use what's left of the $450 to gas up the pump. I run set that all up. Fire it up and run dirt until the 2 mats are 100%. This has me at about 14-15 oz from the early nugget finds. I head to the BS and sell enough gold ore to get $500 or so. Then I use the $500 to smelt ~5 ounces of gold. That cash lets me finish out the full tier 1 hog pan setup. I buy 5 buckets as well. After finishing the setup, I shovel until the 5 buckets are loaded. Pan it all out. This puts me about $40k going into the morning of day 2. That's enough to pretty much complete the portable wash plant setup on the main claim.
That brings me to the first majorly annoying bug I have experienced...small water pump location. It seems that each small water pump I have used gets tied to the location where I first start it. I experienced this in my first start after playing through the tutorial for awhile and feeling I was ready to have an actual game. Figured there's no reason to buy a small pump to get my mobile wash plant up and running. I went and grabbed the the first small pump I had purchased for the hog pan and moved it out to the hill where the tutorial had shown. Incidentally, during the tutorial I didn't bother to reuse the old pump since the tutorial is terribly designed in that it doesn't allow progress unless you follow the current step to the letter. No skipping steps if you already have an item. Anyway, when I moved the small pump to the hill and hooked it all up, it wouldn't start. Hmmm. went back over to the hog pan and I hear a motor running... WTF? Now I'm thinking...wait a min...why was there smoke coming up from the small pump when I tried to start it on the hill? So I grab it and bring it back to where I hear it running by the hog pan. Hit the off switch and presto, she powers down. Pull the cord, she powers up like a champ. Well long story short, seems small water pumps are locked to where ever you first start them up. Another few starts later and I am back to the point where I'm setting up the mobile wash plant up on the claim hill and trying to discover the best spot for the small pump. Well the bug strikes and crap, pump seems tied to the location I first start it. So not just a one time glitch, seems the pump implementation is bugged. Few google searches and can't find any mention of it. Can't seem to find anyplace, other than the Steam forums, where the game is really discussed outside of YouTube videos. Have watched quite a few of those and didn't see this bug once. It's not game destroying...but it sure is inconvenient to have to buy a new pump for every implementation. Also, It'd be nice to have some of the basic pressure and elec system stats like max distance for each pump/gen/cable/hose. Fuel capacity. Avg run time/gallon. Simple stuff.
im not even getting 1 Oz.
Per pan there are in average 6 nuggets with about average 0,01 Oz
With one bucket having 4-5 pans this is round about 0,30 Oz i make per Wash out with 4 mats.
what the ♥♥♥ i am doing wrong.
That actually is a useful advice, i thought it doesnt make any difference where i dig.
It at leasts looks all the same and nowhere were hints given that the amount of gold gained may vary considerably depending where you dig.
Yeah i guess i will go for wash table soon... i made now about 20 washouts and should have enough gold soon to afford it. ~7 Oz in my account RN
And my hands are sore from digging...can you buy hand lotion ingame ? :-P
Starting anew i can confirm that the arnolds hog claim has 3 Oz yield per wash in the middle but almost nothing at its side.
I actually am already at T2 with a small excavator after 3 ingame days.
i thought having an excavator would speed up things a bit but it seems you process much more dirt for less gold. I think you need 50 turns with excavator to get one bucket full of the MWP, and one turn is considerably slower then making shovel turns on hog site where you need ~ 100 Shovels for one full bucket.
That bucket yield 3 Oz on Hog site and ~6=Oz at T2 Plant.
I guess by calculating time in to fill a bucket remains the same but output doubles the net gain is doubled... nevertheless... you need so much gold for buying some next things... i cant possibly imagine to do 100 buckets full with excavator just to buy the claim or afford other things.
Im looking for workers now, maybe the give a good portion of workspeed progress.
I heard there are better spots on the big parcel, so maybe i am again on a bad spot? I didn't start digging at the edge of the parcel this time. Shall i save for a drill immediately to find that sweet spots or go for big excavator?
I made a test game where i cheated money to test the machines a bit, while i dont get how to make efficient use of bulldozer or sumthing the other thingy. ony things that seem to make sense are big excavator and drill. I did not manage to set up my (temporarilly cheated) conveyor belt.
Maybe this makes some machines more effective or at least useful like the bulldozer?
