Question for Front End Loader
Some 'old timers' say Front End Loader is/was broken: It was eating gold if used for digging dirt.
If this ever was the case, is it still?

I know, frankenstein is best, but I want to use, at least once, all machines.

How do I use Front End Loader effective?
Digging with FEL and driving to Shaker?
Digging with Excavator, pouring dirt into FEL and driving to Shaker?

I bulldoze a flat spot about half way down whatever the max depth of the area is. use the loader to load frank. This was really only viable after that patch where they increased all bucket sizes as with that you could always have a full frank hopper

Seems nerfed now. mxsuzuki458 Can you update?
I find that using the LE I can load franie almost as fast as it can move dirt, but if it is stopped a bucket is 4%. Using the LE to dumptruck gives 5-7% per bucket and a dumptruck loads the hopper 99-100% which again loads the T3 washplant with 200%. Each 100% loads mats 10% so a full dumptruck is 20% on washplant mats and by inferral a bucket of the LE is about 1-1.2% on washplant mats. If I dig next to the frankie hopper I can be quite quick but still not as quick as frankie moves the dirt. This basically means I can't keep the plant fed properly at all especially when moving to the T4 stuff. Seems like the later changes have changed the balance.
The dumptruck does 2x pr bucket of what the LE does but it's very weak now and can't even drive over the smallest bumps. It also takes ages to lift and dump a load making it slower than the LE by far.

I believe the original design was to use Dump Truck to the Conveyor Hopper to Conveyor Bucket to Shaker/Glacier Creek thru rest of wash plant.

Filling the Dump Truck with Little Excavator (2.5 cub) or Big Excavator (5.0 cub) or Front End Loader (10 cub). Note with all you need to dig in LAYERS!

It has been proven that if you dig from the bottom to the top surface pay dirt, any pay dirt IS lost!
With all machines you must dig from top down, only as deep as it's respective bucket to NOT lose good pay dirt.

When using End Loader, only dig pay dirt that is not taller than it's bucket. (ie: if you ram a wall, the FEL looks like it fills faster, but you will sacrifice the gold above it)

Hope this makes sense, Good Luck!

Yeah, this is very good info. I wish I read it before my first play as it would have saved me from making giant craters in Old Arnold in just a few days. The way I was digging I would have emptied the claim of dirt in half a season.

As it is now the FEL is pretty much useless vs the LE due to the time it takes to finangle it back and forth with every bucket, even if you use a frankie. "Scoop, short pivot, dump, pivot back and repeat." is easily done twice in less time than a single scoop of the FEL.
With a single scoop of the FEL being just two scoops of the LE and the FEL not being able to climb the surface in the bottom of the claim it just has too many drawbacks.

Use the Front End Loader to load Dump Trucks, build good ramps. ( You can even dump into the Frankenstein's hopper, do it sideways, it works).

The excavator can only dig so deep, so I use the FEL to load trucks at the bottom. Notice I leave a layer of paydirt, once I cleared a big area, I will go back and get that thin layer down to the bedrock.

( I have removed overburden, soil with zero/very low gold.)

Wonderfull operation.
I suspect though there is differences working on Metric vs Imperial mode.
I now run a T3 with full crew at close to 70% worker levels and have a T4 DeRocker and a T5 Gravel pump. Yet, a full cleanup of mats, pumps and grates plus hogpans etc only yield me around 2000 grams of gold when dirt is taken from the bast areas with LE in careful layers. A full run is about 400 m^3 od dirt to get everything to 100%. Dirt is drilled and estimated to 20-25g/m^3 (best dirt I find after drilling every square on OA) so 400x20 = 8000g. I get 20% of that which may not be too bad. But I think the drill results say that my ground has a lot less gold than what would be found on a "Imperial claim". 2000g is just about 72 oz and even at 100% recovery there would only be 360oz meaning to get to even 1260oz gold like you have in pic is a 4-cleanup affair at 100%. I assume you keep selling off the gold as you have piles of cash.
Maybe this is a result of my game being started after gold was reduced while anyone resetting a claim on a game that was started in "old days" would get massive gold.

It would be interesting to pick a square that I and you have not dug in. Select that square so it shows the amounts/levels, screen shot it and then compare them to see if they match.....????

(I have finished all the parcels, I have not reset OA, just went back to an old save that I had. At an earlier Rev level, you were only able to save like 15 saves, so I went into the folders and made a copy of it, and moved the copied folder to a saved location. Then I deleted saves so game loaded faster.)

Tips: When you end a season, and get the Season End screen, screen shot it, F12 for the totals.
When I save a game, I do this: Season4D01, then Season4D05, ~D10,~D15, etc. That way if you really screw up, which I have BTW, you only have lost a few days of work, or run experiments, try new methods.

I have over 2,000 hrs playing, was involved in the kick starter, alpha and beta builds since 2017.

Feel free to ask me anything, Ii will do as much as I can.

M.Stranger, nice job on that ramp!

Thanks Man!

Thanks M.Stranger. I think the gold is somewhat randomly generated now but apparantly it is based on the game as you start a new one.

Also, when I drilled the entire map I did not get more than 2 tones of color on my entire map. I even tried drilling multiple spots in each square to get a better estimate but all I got was yellow and yellower. Less than 14g/m^3 and more than I think. Not very good help and it took me a "day".

If you referencing to Rivertown, it was the same for me. Not really impressed with the gold I got out of it.
KreAture May 2, 2020 @ 7:37am
I drilled entire OA. Still not progressed to any other claim :(
