Cleaning grates

I'm doing the the tutorial and it tells me to clean the grates.
I know you are supposed to use the small shovel and I see a yellow highlight of the shovel next to the matt cleaning machine I guess that's what it is.
But I'm not sure how or what to do.
Can someone please explain the Matt cleaning process?

Shovelling the gold

I hope the dev's read this restarted this game so many times for different reason's my latest problem is with the proper wash plant's material's come from shaker heading to trommel have the grill's in place & bucket at the side 100% full on sluice. I press 3 for my small shovel then press to scoop up the material but nothing is working even changed key binds . So there must be something your end that needs fix please sort it

don't use your keyboard with the small shovel- only the mouse to empty the grates.

i have tryed the mouse nothing works even uninstalled the damm game again yesterday

HI iv done that i think you take the grates out to clean the gold out with the small shovel into a bucket i havent done that for some time though.

Do it twice. Two times shovel grate and put it in the bucket. Two same actions required to clean whole gold from it.

What grates are they talking about?

Those grates in the sluice between shaker and trommel, you need 4 of them (you can see it in the journal on page 21). At the rear side of the sluice are holder for 3 buckets, you place one bucket in it and with the small shovel you can clean the grates.

If something is stuck or doesn't react, we'll there's plenty of objects and simulation to calculate that sometimes rarely something bugs out. You can save, go to main menu and load save again.
Without even restarting the game and that helps out with performance after a long run as well.
Probably the game is plain 32bit.
