Fully Working Xbox360 Controller Config
I've configured a fully working xbox360 controller for Gold Rush, works on all menu's and stores etc so there's no need to use a mouse or keyboard while playing.

PRO's
It works with all machines, rotate objects, ALL menus (Front End Menu, Maps, Hardware Store, Machine Store, Daily Summary, Tablet, Bank etc) so no need for a mouse at all.
Radial Menu for Quicksave, Quickload, Toggle HUD and Show/Hide Controls.
Digging Camera, allows you to move camera angle and zoom in and out then resume digging again.
Alternative controls for machines (except Excavators and Franks), this is actually a limitation of the config software but it works for us in this case. (Useful if you like driving with the analogue stick.)

CON's
It requires you use Big Picture Mode, not a problem for me but I've seen lots of comments in the Steam Community from users who hate using Big Picture Mode for whatever reason.
As this Config is based on keyboard mapping it doesn't show Xbox buttons when you press Z it shows keyboard keys instead, this is something that can't be fixed in this config, sorry. I am looking into this though at the moment.

So there's the Pro's and Cons now for a few tips.

Menu's/Map.
Whilst in a menu the Left or Right stick moves the cursor then X or A button to select.
To Drag the Map or to Scroll Up/Down (i.e. Tent Tablet to scroll up/down) Use Left or Right Stick then click and hold and drag/move the map or scroll Up/Down.
To Zoom In/Out of Map use LT/RT on controller to zoom in and out. (1 frame per press of the button)

Radial Menu.
I've added what's called a Radial Menu which you can access with a long press of the Xbox start button (Menu button in Gold Rush)
After you've (long) pressed the button you now need to move the left stick to see the menu, just move to the option you require and click the left stick whilst holding the position of the option you want.
To exit the Radial Menu just click the Xbox start button again (Menu button in Gold Rush), it doesn't have to be a long click this time. (the long click to enter the Radial Menu is so I can assign different functions to a single button)

Rotate Objects.
Pick up the object then hold RB then use Left or Right stick to rotate.

Excavator and Frankenstein Conveyor.
These for me were the hardest to get working properly due to the limitations of the config software and just the way games generally work.
So, you press X to enter the machine and if you enter the machine in Driving mode then everything should work as normal but if you exit the machine in Digging/Conveyor Mode and you re-enter the machine it assumes you have just entered the machine ready to drive it.
This is one of the limitations I was talking about, the config doesn't know what machine you are entering or what state you exited it (Driving/Digging/Conveyor) I can only tell it to change to a different set of controls.

i.e. When you enter a vehicle pressing X, I then assign commands to press keyboard button E and also to change to a different set of controls for Driving.
Then when want to dig you press the Left stick, I then assign command to press keyboard button Left Shift and also change to a different set of controls for Digging.
This is where the fun starts lol, Now say you exit the excavator whilst still in Digging mode when you re-enter the machine it changes to a Driving set of controls because it has no way of knowing you left the machine while still in Digging mode.(pressing the left stick to activate Driving then pressing again to activate Digging again should get you back on track again)

Controller controls everything as it should but I've added a camera button.
Pressing the Left D-Pad button switches to Camera mode. Left stick up/down Zoom In/Out, LT/RT Zoom In/Out 1 frame at a time and Left stick moves the Camera.
When your finished adjusting the camera just press the Left D-Pad Button to resume Digging again.

Tip: If you enter the Excavator and are stuck on camera view pressing the Left D-Pad button should fix this.

Dump Truck.
Normal controls except Y and B buttons no longer control the Bed Raise/Lower,(It was conflicting with the Front End Loader controls) so use the left stick to Raise/Lower the Dump Truck Bed.
Alternative Controls: Pressing the left stick gives you a different set of controls, Left stick - Forward/Back/Left/Right, Right Stick Raise/Lower Bed.

Front End Loader.
Normal Controls.
Alternative Controls: Pressing the left stick gives you a different set of controls, Left stick=Forward/Back/Left/Right, Right Stick UP/Down=Arm Up/Down Left/Right=Blade Up/Down.
The alternative controls might not work as well for digging with this machine.

Bulldozer.
Normal Controls.
Alternative Controls: Pressing the left stick gives you a different set of controls, Left stick=Forward/Back/Left/Right, Right Stick UP/Down=Blade Up/Down, Left/Right=Ripper Up/Down.

Drilling Machine.
Normal Controls.
Alternative Controls: Pressing the left stick gives you a different set of controls, Left stick=Forward/Back/Left/Right, Right Stick UP/Down=Drill Up/Down.

Gold Panning.
Normal Controls except LB/RB Raise/Lower the Pan instead of LB/RB.
Y and B on controller also Raise/Lower the Pan.

Pick Up Truck.
Normal Controls.
Alternative Controls: Pressing the left stick gives you a different set of controls, Left stick=Forward/Back/Left/Right, Right Stick does nothing.

Right, so there's a quick rundown of the important stuff, it might look a lot but it's actually not that bad.
The best thing would be to try it out to see for yourself.

Big Picture Mode Setup for this config.
If you would like to try this config you need to use Big Picture Mode, to do this open Steam then click on the controller icon (top left of Steam)
After the short animation click on settings. (the Cog on the top left of the screen)
Now click on Controller Settings.
Tick the box Xbox Configuration Support.
Click Back then Back until you get back to the Big Picture Mode main screen.
Start your Game, once started press the Xbox Button.
Choose Controller Configuration from the menu on the left.
Press X to Browse Configs then choose Community then choose my Config (Gold Rush v1.0)
Choose Done then choose Return to Game.
You should now have a fully working controller for Gold Rush The Game.

IMPORTANT:- If you don't usually use Big Picture Mode Please REMEMBER to untick the Xbox Configuration Support box again or else your controller won't work in the default Steam overlay.

I've played for hours using this config and never had to touch a mouse once, just sit back with my feet up and play.
(The hours of play are not shown correctly as I had to make a new save to add a description to the config so It went back to 0hrs and I had to play again for a bit so I can upload it, lol)

Enjoy !!!

My xbox controller works fine by default, but maybe those with issues might find this useful?

I juggled my Xbox One controller and keyboard/mouse for this game. I only use Xbox to drive and dig, but keyboard/mouse for person movement like FPS.

One thing I don't like is you can't customize controller button to my liking. As for example, dumper truck - I can't remove stick up and down for lift/drop truck. If I switch to normal, it's removed but it changed to different button that I don't want. That's bit frustrating.

@ codehorizon_HeadMod, It was something I originally started back in January for my Steam Link and I just picked it up again the other day, just thought I'd share.

Also i didn't know the controller could be used to navigate menus, maps etc now, I dont think it did in January when I started this or did it?

I thought the game only had partial controller support, when did full controller support happen?

I've not played in a while so I didn't realise the controller was fully functional now lol, On the plus side at least I've learnt how to configure a controller via steam. :steamhappy:

PS what controller config are you using?

@JMH714 I used to do that too but I got fed up swapping from controller to mouse just to use a menu, tent tablet, machine store etc so I made this config so I don't need a mouse or keyboard anymore, It's all done from the controller.

Changing the button configuration is more complicated than it seems, if you change the buttons for one machine it messes up the buttons for other machines as all the machines use similar buttons, It's a right pain in the butt sometimes lol.

How are you customizing your controller? In the games settings menu or are you using Big Picture Mode config?

I turned off Big Picture Mode in Steam/Setting/Controller and left that way. I have not attempt customize any of buttons in Steam setting - too much work and I just use whatever default ingame.

I do have Saitek steering wheel that are for Farm SImulation.

Thanks, Just tried it and it works great except when it comes to exit the game from the front end menu.
I used RT to navigate to EXIT but no button works to select EXIT I had to use my mouse for that but apart from that good work, glad the team got that fixed.

My Config is WSAD based and is originally for my Steam Link as I didn't want to buy and set up VirtualHere, lol

I'm gonna get my Stream Link out later and test my config out and if everything is OK I might change the title of this thread to something like "Fully Working Xbox360 Controller Config for Steam Link" and re-work the comment to suit.

Let us know how it goes and if it all works i can add it to the Discords Official trouble-shoot page.

fwiw - using the game stock with a plain wired 360 controller, everything is doable except a few nagging things in the store-dialogs (bank/machines/equipment etc). Normally its just a failure to move the focus; one mouse click and you're on your way via controller again.

to be fair though, I'm only running T2 atm, so perhaps bigger equipment has control problems I haven't found.

Stock controls nuisances I've found:
- Transport dialog: can't click stick in Transport dialog to increase claim machine capacity
- Loan dialog: extremely hard to move focus down & up between $ and duration
- Pause menu: once you move focus down into lower pane, can never go back up top again
