can't refuel the small generator

I've tried opening the fuel cap on the generator and the jerry can, but to no avail. Every time I connect the jerry can the fuel cap on the generator closes. Am I missing something here?

Try to leave the cap closed, it opens (and coses) automatically if you use a can / nozzle on the intake.

...nozzle? Is that what I am missing!? My jerry cans don't have a nozzle, can you buy one?

With nozzle I mean the fuel nozzle (or "pistol") at the end of the hose which you have at the fuel trailer, container or fuel station.
Ok, it was a bit confusing in this context.

You can refill all equipment with jerry cans (ok, you would need many jerry cans for refilling an excavator or the big generator so it doesn't make sense...).

So again and better: Try to leave the cap closed, it opens (and closes) automatically if you use a jerry can on the intake.

I figured out the problem. My generator was too close to the wave table, so it was affecting the jerry can. It could connect but wasn't filling the generator. I moved the generator a bit further from the table and problem solved! Thanks for your help.
