"We here at Code Horizon know that the community would love to have Multiplayer as part of the game. Unfortunately, it’s not possible for us to implement without rewriting 50% of the game. Instead, we’re continuously working on other features."
Okay granted, yes it Might be a Big Undertaking. So why lock out modding?
If Code Horizon where to allow modding, It would be a Major Breath Of Fresh Air for their game. I know quite a few modders and had asked them to look at the game for modding possiblities. They said, and I quote:
"Oh wow, This game would be so fun to mod, And EASY! God I hope they let us mod this..."
I know of one modding group that went as far to try to make a multiplayer mod, just to test if it could be done. And It reportedly WORKED!!! But sadly they can't release the mod because Code Horizon doesn't allow modding of the game, so that mod may never see the light of day.
I mean honestly, look at most of the great games, whats the one thing they all have in common?
Just to name a few:
Farming sim 13, 15, 17, 19: Mods Allowed
Mine craft: Mods Allowed
Ark Survival Evolved: Mods Allowed
Scrap Mechanic: Mods Allowed
Garry's Mod: Come On, It's Right There In The Name!
Any Elder Scrolls game: Mods Allowed
Any Fallout game: Mods Allowed
Space Engineers: Mods Allowed
Medieval Engineers: Mods Allowed
American Truck Sim: Mods Allowed
Euro Truck Sim: Mods Allowed
Factorio: Mods Allowed
BeamNG.Drive: Mods Allowed
KERBAL SPACE PROGRAM: Mods Allowed
SPORE: Mods Allowed (and that was an EA game)
The Sims: Mods Allowed (EA game)
Sim City!: Mods Allowed (EA game)
Spin Tires: Mods Allowed
I've noticed that most games that are being released allow mods, the main exception being Online Only competitive games, which stands to reason.
So why is Gold Rush, a none competitive, single player, simulation game. Not Allowed to be Modded?
And it would be simple to add a leaderboard lock out code for games that have mods active.
Argument: null
Next?
Personally I’d bite the bullet and rewrite that 50% of the code. Instead they mad another solo game about sitting in a garage and customizing a vehicle.
Just seems like a really stubborn dev team.
Oh you're wrong. THAT OTHER GAME HAS MP!!!
This game is about going about your own business and managing things on your own. I'm very happy that effort is not wasted on implementing multiplayer. I prefer a game where the developers keep improving the existing functionality while adding new experimental stuff.
I don't write this to be obstinate, but rather to tell the developers that there are players that like the path they have chosen for this game.
And that is fine, but there are those of us that have played Farming Simulator 13,15,17, and 19, experienced what mp can do for a game that allows for more than one player to operate more than one peace of machinery at one time. Imagine this if you will...
You and three buddies log into Gold Rush, you start a saved game and they join your game. You hop in your excavator two of your buddies grab a dump truck each, and the last guy takes over the wash plant operation...
I mean honestly, that sounds way more fun than.
Hop in excavator, fill dump truck.
Hop in dump truck, empty into hopper at wash plant.
turn on wash plant till hopper is empty.
repeat to fill wash plant with pay dirt...
Day 1: 3 friends are starting a new game. They jam each other at the hogpan. Thinking positive, because they don't have to watch out the pesky tree branch which was patched out a while ago!
Day 2: One of them has sports training that evening. Ok, no jamming at the hogpan, made enough money for one T2 setup. One in the excavator, the other changes buckets and washes gold.
Day 3: Other one has no time (evening with wife / girlfriend), so 2 again. Now with two T2 setups. Yeah, double singleplayer!
Day 4: The third one has a raid evening in a MMORPG, so double singleplayer again. Game ends quite fast because girlfriend of one wants to go to cinema with him.
Day 5: Weekend, one is making a short trip for whole weekend because of good weather. The other ones don't play because they want to preserve the game for the one else he could be fed up. And "saturday night fever" (disco) and so on.
Day 7 (evening): New season of "Gold Rush" starts on TV, so no playing. Everyone's eager how the new [en.wikipedia.org] actor of Parker will play his role because the old one is meanwhile under contract of HBO and plays some Walkers in new "The Walking Dead" season (was already on diet for the role after end of filming of last GR season). So no playing on Sunday evenings!
Day 8: One has late shift so he can't play at evenings the whole week / can only play after the others are going to bed.
. . .
Day 9: Remember, sports training. So one alone...
Day 11: Raid evening, so one alone again.
...
Day 20: A long awaited game comes out, one of them plays the new game for a while, so 2 remaining.
Day 22: One other is getting bored about grinding, wants to play only around every 3 days. And then at some of those days the other remaining has no time.
And they were still at T2! And that was optimistic because many people have much less time for playing games.
That is one of the reasons I think many overestimate just how much more they would enjoy the game in MP. Don't get me wrong, this is one game I just might try co-op - providing some strangers want to include me in their crew - but how long would we really stick with it?
Another point: let's face it, CH were cutting their teeth with this game and bit off as much as they felt they could chew. If performance is already dicey in SP, don't think it wouldn't be even worse MP. "Ok right, they need to fix performance also" - let's be realistic, they're not going to fundamentally re-develop the game at this point, even assuming they have now acquired the experience and resources to properly address both those concerns.
