Big Water Pump Operating Costs
So i just started testing the operating costs of the big water pumps on hard
7hrs of continuous operation in on a dry run (no water being pumped) the diesel pump has used 10% of its fuel or about 5.6 (wich is currently $13.50 a gal) the electric pump operating off a small electric generator should have used about 1.4 gallons however the coil for it is down to 65% and costs currently $1400 -ish wich given the current rate of degredation will need to be replaced in about 20 hours of operation (and its a clear day so this is before any increase to wear due to rain) in 20 hours the diesel pump (based on its stat card) should use 16 gallons costing about $216 dollars at the current price while the small electric generator will only use 4 gallons ($54) ....
so far : 20 hours of operation (assuming $13.50 diesel price and using current part cost estimation)
Diesel Pump : $215 (about $10.75/hr)
Electric Pump (w/ small diesel electric) $1454 ( about $72.70/hr)
this does not include pipe costs as for the moment im assuming they break at the same rate regardless of wich pump you are operating making the cost equal for both. i have also not yet tested how quickly the pipes degrade with water running through them This also doesnt take into account the greater cost of the electric pump on top of all this. So it would seem untill you have mechanics (or other workers) who can negate the need of replacing the coil , that while the electric pump will conserve fuel money , its operating costs far eclipse that of the diesel pump.

Can you power big electric with the big power generator?

I currently use to electric small pumps, powered by big generator, nice to only have to toggle one switch to start plant

the big water pump can be powered with the big generator, however im not sure how much fuel the big power plant uses on an hourly basis , i presume more then the small generator and likely the large diesel pump as well. that being said , using the big powergen to run the pump would increase its endurance since the large gen can run longer then the small gen wihtout needing to be fueled , but it also costs more to purchase and if it does use more fuell it drives the cost per hour to use the electric pump even higher.
also , started a new file on a lower difficulty (with breakdowns on still) to set up a test where i could run the machines with water to see if the pipes had different damage rates depending on wich large pump you are running so far it doesnt seem so. All of this leads me to feel like the greater cost of the large electric pump (compared to the large diesel pump anyway) isnt really justified since the diesel pump would have to go through roughly 100 gallons of diesel in 20 hours to bring the operating costs to near even , but by its stat block in the store it goes through its 40ish gallon tank in more then twice that.

Only played one season and a bit, but never had a hose break. Even after being out during season change

i havnt had a hose break yet either , but the two large water pumps have a pipe on them with a durability limit.

Seen a hose break to ice only once personally. I don't know if it follows real life logic but I generally don't have any water running anywhere in the winter so it would make sense that empty hoses wouldn't break.

On pump debate, gotta remember that you really should have a mechanic around and if you do... that coil degradation is pretty much irrelevant. What is relevant is that you eat less fuel and need fewer things to refuel. At least I think it eats less fuel.

Never put 2 side by side and run them of a single jerrycan to see what will run out of juice faster.

but then youd also need to include the cost of the mecahnic in the daily operating cost of the pump at least in part . and that could equally apply to the diesel one (though it is less neccesary given that the pipe doesnt wear out as fast) also do mechanics just reduce wear rate or actually repair some , if they do repair would it be enough to actually prevent the coil from breaking anyway or simply delay it? in my hard mode game i havnt really been making enough to be able to activly pay for employees yet. and the test save i made on easy hasnt had many employees apply for jobs yet.
