Tracer rounds
Are tracer rounds actually any different from 'normal' ammunition? I can't quite tell if they are only cosmetic or if they actually have a gameplay effect like better penetration or more damage.

i think all they do is glow and make enemies detect you faster

the idea of tracer rounds is that it's easier for you to correct your aim since you can actually see the bullet flying, as far as i know at least
If you have the time and resources you can use tracers to help with ammunition management like in IRL. Having the last 5 or so bullets being tracers can help give you a visual cue as to know you are running low in the magazine.

Yeah if I have time i'll throw a tracer round at the end of my magazine.

From my experience it seems that tracers are slightly weaker than regular FMJ, though I'm not too sure

I never thought about that. I always used the sound the firearm makes when shooting the last bullet as an indicator, if anything. I usually just swap mags between waves, or between sosig spawns.

I do it especially for guns with big or odd magazines, I usually play some music in the background while I play so I can't rely on sound.

Pretty much this as well; the pitch does differ for the last bullet. I do the tracer for larger magazines as where burst or automatic fire occurs and you hear alot; doing 5 as good measure for a burst or two.

How do you even survive T&H without relying on sound

I still can, not quiet ones like that, quiet music in the background never hurt nobody.
I also keep my radar on.

To answer the OP, the only notable difference between FMJ and Tracer rounds is Tracer rounds leave a brief trail where they fly. They do not penetrate, damage or fly any better or faster than what would matter in anything short of extremely long range shooting.

There's no downside to using them, and the only upside is it's much easier to see what your bullets are smashing into (or missing) at a glance.

honestly i think they are just rounds that make your bullets more visible so its not really diffrent
CodeRedDev Jul 8, 2021 @ 12:19pm
all the tracer does is makes it easier to see where a bullet is going. its better for longer distance shooting where bullet drop is noticeable, but it does do the same damage, and in rare cases does more than all other variations (mostly with older ammunition types)
