I am also can't open break action shotguns
they work 70% on the left knuck, and like 1% on the right knuck, which is crazy when the up on the touchpad input works great for basically every other gun :( (spinning, safety etc). It's really frustrating too because I see the lever wiggle on the model but not enough?

happens to me too, i brought it up a while ago but nothing seems to have come of it
ok so I found the issue, the activation spot is RIIIIIIGHT at the top of the touch pad's capsule, and I think if I bring the touch pad curve response out a bit it might help with the response maybe.

It doesn't make sense to me that spinning and safetys work fine in the capsule's dip and only break action is right at the top, but c'est la vie innit

It isn't though, it opens the latch if the detected Touchpad Axis point is in the top 40% of the range (hand.Input.TouchpadPressed && TouchPadAxes.y > 0.1f && m_hasLatchButton).

The problem is that a lot of folks have a hand position such that when their thumb lands on the touchpad, it is detected much lower on the pad than they think it is. It's why I used a set of 3d printed 'Risers' (which Valve designed but didnt include in the box) that push my hand off the controller more so that the tip of my thumb of my thumb more easily pushes the thumb pad, instead of the 'meat' of it.
it'd be great if it did activate at 40% north, like revolver spinning (I am assuming it's the same bind), but it only works when my thumb is right on the tip top of the touch pad capsule, when I can feel the ridge on my thumb, and the tip of my thumb is over the status light.

I had a look at the riser pads, but I think they'd make my grip worse than it is now (I have tiny mini baby hands) but it's cool they're out there.

it also seems to vary between shotguns, some open pretty easy (triple punch, the OG etc) and some won't open at all (outback double, DT 11 etc). If you want I could take some video of the situation but idk how it would help really, other than to prove I'm not lying :VSnake:

also meat, hehe

That's supremely strange. There's literally nothing different between those shotguns code wise.

For my sanity, are you -holding- the button, not pressing it? The latch needs to be held open while the shotgun is broken open. It's not an event.
I mean, I'm not doing anything different between the shotguns, I'm assuming the DT11 is meant to open under it's own weight, as the triple punch does. I push the top of the touchpad for a half second maybe? the latch on the 'punch will wiggle and the gun will open, the latch on the DT11 will wiggle and that's it. I even tried the community suggested "slide to the left as well" and it just wiggles again but slightly less wiggle (because it goes lower on the touchpad because thumb reach radius ig), no open.

for /my/ sanity, I even just tried them all just now, the revolver style shotguns and the survival break action are exempt, but the rest it was about 50-50 if they open or not. I also looked to see if I could get a diagnostic on the index knuck inputs, and I couldn't find anything useful, but in the overlay I can move the white dot all over the touch pad so I think (hope) it's not a hardware issue :(

Hrmmmm. What I may do is make a 'hanging' latch, where the initial button down event holds it open for like... half a second at least.

This is super weird. I have index controllers and have no trouble opening any of these shotguns. Ive never understood why, just for some folks, there's an issue.
This is the first time i've heard of anything like this, I've never had an issue opening break-action shotguns, and if anything I've had the opposite issue, opening break-action stuff or deploying revolver cylinders after accidentally pressing the button for it! Then again, i am using Quest 2 with streamlined controls.

yeah it seems to be exclusively Valve Index Knuckles issue... maybe even also small hands issue idk, but we can hope we can find out and not have the issue anymore, and enjoy the DT11 fully!
I use index and don’t have this issue at all. Maybe the touchpad on your right controller is worn down a bit?

I hope not after less than 100 hours use :(

I’m right around there too so that’s probably not it then. I don’t know what to tell ya.
[[ workaround // fix ]]

go steam controller settings and set the touch pad setting under the deadzone one (I think it's called max percent, and it has a BROKEN TOOL TIP VALVE PLS FIX :VSnake: ) low. I settled on 15%.

I also set the exponent to 2 and a 5% deadzone, just so I don't trigger anything by accident when not trying to.

I can only assume this reduces the distance from the origin required to activate the direction but tool tip is broken so who can even guess?! sorry for pinging you all and I hope this helps INDEX KNUCKS STRUGGLE OPEN BREAK GUNS PLAYERS in the future :lilimok:
