as a keyboard player most of the time when i see a controller on my screen i don`t even register that i can turn it in all 360 degrees, so most of the time i just use the 8 directions and have never even tried to turn my wrist to control the rocket

Yup! It's a full 3-degree-of-freedom controller :-)
