And I do play using an Oculus Rift...

you hover your controller over it, you will see the ball light up, grip, then pull the thumb stick down (or was it up, trial and error the directions) and click into the button, its a similar gesture to removing magazines out of a pistol

I did find that when you interact with the track pad style controls (firemode selection, mag ejection) that you have to move the rift's sticks in the desired direction then click it in. Took me a while to figure that out.
