A thought on adding magazines to weapons
I have been playing H3VR so much that I'm having a hard time thinking of a funny simile to employ to explain myself. while playing, I postulated to myself, an idea on the subject of adding magazines to weapons.

(Semi)Automatic Pistols is an obvious place to start because what I'm talking about is very noticable here. It makes sense that you would "grab" the magazine out of the players hand and insert it into the gun whenever the player placed one close to the bottom of the handle of a pistol (or even some SMG's and rifles), but with time and many hours of gameplay, it becomes rather obvious that you're sort of just hovering a magazine beneath the opening of the gun and then *poof,* It's in the gun!

I get that physics engines don't play nice with small object slotting into smooth cutouts, So I thought, how about a "rail" system of sorts? Think of the Mauser + stripper clip, you attatch the stripper clip and to the gun and press the bullets down, it's probably the most realistic feeling reload in the game.

Now imagine doing something similar for a magazine and a glock. You get the magazine close to the opening in the bottom of the handle, The game "grabs" it, and while it's being held onto, you can only move it freely between two directions, Up into the gun (where the gun would grab it completely) and down out of the gun (where the gun would let-go of it completely).

You could remove physics interactions during the period in which the magazine was hooked to the "virtual rail" which would make it run smoothly.

Just a stupid thought! Thanks papa anton!

There's a setting in the game options called "realistic reloading". Give that a shot and see if it suits you better

Just checked this, can't find it anywhere. I'm on alpha build tree. Is this from standard build or beta?

is that the other option compared to arcade reloading (no collision)?

because hes probably on normal which yes i agree is kind of tediuous sometimes

I don't think I explained myself well enough, sorry guys. I mean to say that reloading can feel somewhat lackluster at times--especially pistols since when you get the magazine close to the weapons mag-well, the gun just "takes" it from you, it may be nit-picking but I really want to feel like I'm sliding the magazine up into the handle, kinda like with the HSP 45 (I believe that's the one) where you have to get the mag partway into the magwell before it takes it. It feels more realistic... that's all!

i know EXACTLY what u mean...

and i love the idea but wont it kinda feel like on the rails? you know, because to get it to slide in,

it has to be "grabbed" by the gun and then slid up. and for dropping mags do you believe that you should be able to just remove them like they are now or would you want them to slide out as you pull them?

so like linearly slide in/out is what i call it ig. haha

Well firstly, there would be no friction of any kind while using the rail system that exists in my minds eye lol. It would be, well, "transparent," is a good word I think. The whole system would only be there to guide the mag into the magwell--BASICALLY its purpose would be to avoid collision problems within the engine while still allowing the player to feel like they're actually inserting the magazine into the piece.

When you drop the mag, it should move freely, exactly like it does now, either dropped straight down or to be grabbed by the player and put on their belt, thrown, etc.

Thanks for the reply btw, I was hoping I wasn't crazy for wanting something like this haha.

I tried something like this in the past, and it resulted in all sorts of problems related to state combinations and physics. I won't be trying again.

Doh! Well thanks for the reply!
