Cannon Fodder from "Memories" was a huge inspiration for REDCON. One of the reasons why General Kranz teaches ballistics at the academy. There's also a very special "Cannon 17" in the game and many more little hints at this thoughtful and beautiful anime short.
Glad you noticed!
Anime is plural for anime.
Memories was a good anime and I love that it spawned the idea for such a game.
Of the three vignettes, Magnetic Rose and Stink Bomb had more story to them. However Cannon Fodder was more about establishing a world. Seeing the day-to-day lives of this nation at war with an unseen enemy. From school age to factory worker to military engineers and gunners. You got the idea that this was just part of their daily lives and they simply made the best with what they had to live with.
It's a world one could lose themselves in and now, thanks to this game, we can.
