This game is ancient. Has it been modded to improve the visuals and increase resolution?

It's been many years. But I thought I would play this game again. Due to the age and compatibility issues I decided to buy it on Steam to avoid the starforce bs. However, while the game launches - with the annoying configuration tool every time - there is ZERO audio. Absolute silence. I cannot find any solution to this anywhere....

Can't get past the 2nd challenge on the semi-pro stage. Any tips please.
