Remedial Double Slip Switch Question
I think I should preface this with "I'm no rail expert", but there seems to be a considerable opportunity cost in terms of speed impact the lines that are involved in a double slip switch. My use case is a single line merging at an angle into a straight double-tracked mainline.

I accept that the merging single line would have some speed reduction as a result of taking this corner, that's fine. But the double slip switch also results in a (considerably) slowed down mainline through that intersection as well, to which I would assume that trains going straight could keep going at a normal/similar speed. I realize that there are alternative ways of switching to avoid this problem, but it really seems to limit the use of the double slip switch feature to areas where mainline traffic speed isn't an issue.

So am I attempting to improperly use slip switches? Is this unique to TPF or is it a real life thing?

Thanks!

I have a feeling that the straight-through segment has no speed hit.
if you're simply looking at the speed overlay that is a little misleading.

oh, and you're using it correctly

I use double-slip switches (and similar switches) extensively:

The only time trains on the through tracks slow down is when there isn't a clear path to the next signal due to a train being in the next block. But they don't slow down by much if you have enough signals to make it almost as though it were ATC operation. If the game used strict block signals like other games do (including Mashinky and Railway Empire), the trains wouldn't move as much in the same space; the trains are in motion more in Transport Fever.

Thanks for both of your friendly and helpful replies. I examined the two spots I had switches slowing down traffic a little more closely and noticed that both of them had the tiniest sliver of track that was slowed just outside of the slip switch, but not a part of the slip. After deleting and re-adding, they (and others) appear to be working just fine!
