Trains turning around
Hello.

Whenever I change the railroads at a station to electrified and/or highspeed, all the trains on that line are changing directions and running into eachother. The only thing I can do afterwards is sell all of my trains and re-activate them again.

This has happened to me in Train Fever as well, and I was hoping this issue would've been fixed in Transport Fever.

There is a change direction button in the vehicle details... This was in Train Fever, too.

if you click on the train, you can reverse it, but yeah i really hate it when you upgrade a station and all the trains turn around

I know that there's a reverse button, but if you miss out a train, everything is going to be messed up anyways...

Also theres a lot of cases where reversing trains ends with the train finding no path. So damn annoying...

I've also found that the trains will dump all of their cargo if you destroy and rebuild (or upgrade) the station they're headed too then turn around. It's really annoying.

The reversing trains when modifying or upgrading was a serious bug that was present in the original 'Train Fever' game. I am amazed that 'Transport Fever' has been released with the same problem. This is a major BUG an needs fixing urgently.

The train reversing behavior is actually really simple to understand and preventable if you manage the lines sufficiently. This problem happens when a train is headed to a stop in the line following the line path. When you change something, delete a track section, station, or add track, all paths for all lines get recalculated. If your action, like deleting a station, is the destination for a train currently traveling, that next stop no longer exists, it then moves to the next stop on the line, resulting in possible a flip.

When you plop the new station down and connect tracks, the paths recalculate again as before, however since the flipped train is already heading to the next stop, it won't change because it's on a valid path.

This behavior isn't so much a bug, as the path finding mechanic of the game reacting to what you have done; removing it's stop.

Since this the path finding mechanic is fundamental to the game I would be suprised if it's ever changed.

To prevent the flip is pretty simple once you understand why it happens.

When making tack modifications or deleting a station:
- Pause game
- Try to avoid having trains approaching on the path you are about to demolish.
- If you use double track layouts, place one signals in the proper directions (this prevents most flipping) Just one or two signals will do placed at a stratigic spots on the lines' path.
- After all your construction is done check the effected paths and make sure they are going where they are supposed to.

I thought one way signals (cliicking on a signal and selecting one way) would prevent trains reversing!. Am I wrong ?!.

Larry: They usually do. Also if you place waypoints in front of station exits and design the line to use the waypoints, there is lower chance of trains turning around.

We had this problem with 'Train Fever' and it was eventually fixed. It's a BUG. I expect this to be fixed for 'Transport Fever'. Workarounds are just not good enough!
On a large complex map it renders the game unplayable. Urban games have a VERY unhappy customer!
