Weird sollution for mission 5 of the Europe campaign
In the fifth mission of the Europe campaign you are suppose to connect the 4 cities with each other with airplanes. The objective is to increase the "willingness to travel" by 10%. For some reason Hamburg increased a lot, went up to 36% some months, but Koln and Stuttgard won't go above 10%. Increasing busses/trams doesn't work. Rearranging the lines doesn't work. More airplanes doesn't work, as that results in a big queue in front of the airport :(

Suddenly i read the mission description again and i think i found a sollution. I start demolishing industry in Koln and voilá.. the willingness shoots up to 20% (from 5%). The same worked in Stuttgart.

Is this supposed to be the sollution???

Nope (imho). I struggled with that one as well, but when i thought about the new passenger travel structure, it jumped into my head that some people are not willing to pay the price of the fast travel. So i created some (for the TransportFever inhabitans cheaper) buslines between the 3 cities. All buslines were immediately enourmosly popular (and profitable), and the percentages went into the 40%.

Good Luck!

Same for me. More incredible design. "We're going to make this mission all about airplanes, but you need to win it with buses". I'm really impressed with who they chose to test this and how much faith they've placed in them. With business decisions like this, this franchise should get its "simcity 5" before long. franchise killing decision soon.

well maybe..stuttgart won't get above 9%.. despite a very frequent busline out of town and an airport. I may have to resort to demolishing.

also how can you land 1000 passengers in Cologne for the medal? Do they mean Koln?

Great attention to detail.

Yes, Cologne means Koln. Colonge is the English word for Koln. There are bigger translation errors than this one in the game lol.

I tried this with trams and it worked. Nothing else seemed to move Koln or Stuttgart willingness, they "flew" up once I gave up on flying them. Thanks!

What exactly is the problem? You got no time limit other than the first takeoff in this mission. And it does exactly what i'd want it to do. Teach you how air-travel works... If you had Islands and no other way of transportation, you could never figure out that some ppl don't like this expensive way of transportation...
I don't really like this mission myself. But for completely different reasons. Mostly the location doen't fit... 4 Citys on the map in most of Germany? And one of them is Schwerin? Are you serious? ;)

rooooooofl ..... exactly what I thought as well - but I assume this is because of the story background of crossing the border to the DDR

I think the main problem of this mission are the stupid flight controls. Taxing planes are allowed to go on the runway even if there is a landing plane really near. Because of this, planes are trying to land for ages, which leads to a hard fall down of the "willingness to travel" in the city the current passengers originates from.

The problem is, as I stated, it's supposed to be about planes, has a story about planes, focuses on planes, but it's impossible to win it with planes.

What are you talking about? I beat it with just planes as I am sure many others have as well. I imagine the fact that you can use buses to do the mission as well was merely an oversight of the developers and not the intended way to do it.
Thork Jan 4, 2017 @ 12:42am
Actually you always have to make a profit with planes in the first place to get anywhere near a win...
Im currently trying the mission again and the more I try the stranger the mechanics get.
One would think, no matter how many busses are in use, the planes would still get used if they are faster. But no - not really... It seems as soon as the bus frequenzy is slightly higher than the planes - you pretty much ruin your own airline. No matter how perfectly it's connected or how many ppl are waiting. I think there is definitely some room for improvement. Also engines really don't matter much when half of the way is flown in landing/takeoff speeds. Not that the map would be awefully small.

I didn't have any problem neither doing it with only planes inter-city. Didn't use the lowest capacity planes, and had some fiddling with making sure the planes don't block each other, especially stopping planes manually from take-off so another plane could land on the one-lane airports. Tho, as soon as the larger airports were available and I made sure there is plenty of inner-city transportation to and from each airport, it went rather quick.

By degree if the Interior minister of Prussia from the year 1900, backed by the German emperor, the german name of the city is to be written with a C, ergo Cöln. Under Cöln Mayor Konrad Adenauer, from 1919 it was written by town council with K again.
As for another interesting thing, the city became part of Prussia during the liberation wars against French oppression.

Playing this mission in July of 2018, I came across this thread while playing this mission. Apparently they changed it at some point, because nowhere does it talk about needing to increase the "willingness to travel". Now the goal is to reach a certain level of profit with planes.

No, you also needed 10% in each of the cities except Schwerin. It was the last objective, once you built the third airport. Objective # medal.

However, as I used the tram trick, I already had 10% when I built an airport in Stuttgart, even without a single plane flying to it. It cost me the 50Mio medal. Therefore, I had to re-play it, and removed tramline to Stuttgart before building an airport there.
