Auto Save?
Did they ever fix the issue with the large auto save file not overwriting in train fever. I would hate to see multiple gigs worth of saves in a days worth of gameplay.

I'm not 100% sure of what you refer too, but...

The auto save files are named autosave_xxxx where xxxx is the year. So if you play on different maps/save games, they will overwrite any previous saved year.

The autosaves are more like a short terms backup. If you want a more long term solution, manually save your game under different names.
When train fever first released it had a bug where I wouldnt overwrite the auto save and each save file was 200+megs so play a couple hours and you would have 2 gigs of saves you would have to go through manually and delete. I was wondering if they fixed that. I guess from what you said they did.

There is no automatic function to only keep x number of autosaves. An autosave will only be overwritten if the year is the same.

But you can set the autosave interval in the settings from 0 to 5 years.
Apologies in advance if it sounds like I'm being overly critical here, I'm not, just doing research on this game as I am very much interested in it :>

So, correct me if I'm wrong here, but let's say, purely for the sake of example:

>Each game lasts a maximum of 100 years (I'm of the impression it can last a lot longer than this, but again, example).
>I set my autosave interval to 5 years
>Each autosave is ~200mb

This means we get 20x200mb saves over those 100 years, or just under 4Gb of save files *BUT* if we started a *Brand new 100 year game*, Transport Fever won't make new a new 4Gb batch of save files for that game, it'll just overwrite the existing ones?

I mean, if you have terabytes of disk space, I suppose it wouldn't be an issue, but perhaps not having a built-in limit to the number of autosaves the game can keep at any one time was a bit of an oversight especially when the above example used the maximum possible autosave interval? I must admit, as someone with disk drive real-estate issues as it is, this is a bit of a turnoff, as had I set the autosave at 1 year intervals, that would lead to a hypothetical save game folder more in the region of 20Gb, which is... yeah :I
The largest autosave file I have is 62MB, but yes you are correct, the drive will fill up.
You can always manually delete the autosave files from:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<YOUR STEAM ID>\446800\local\save
I do agree, the auto-save could be better in this regards, but you could always turn it off and regularly overwrite the same save to keep it from building up.

I find that I do a lot of 'work' with the game paused, since auto-save is based on game time, I prefer manually saving after some extensive changes than waiting for the game to do it for me.

I think therein lies why I find this offputting. Autosaves are a great thing to have, countless hours of work can be salvaged if something goes awry thanks to them, which means I'd like to use them, but if they're not handled well and pruned regularly, it's "goodbye disk space". With the only options being "Delete them regularly, manually" or "Don't use autosave", I'm not really sure what to think.

Regardless, this has been informative, and it's good to know that the 200mb ballpark figure seems to have been an exaggerated, worst-case (and perhaps even not then) value. Thank you all very much for your time :>
That 200 meg figure was thrown around when train fever first released. I never exerienced it because it was so buggy for me I waited for patches then got busy with other games.
The game will only hold 10 autosave files and delete the rest every year.

Save files are around +-100MB in size

Hmm, I have 46 autosave files in my save folder... 1.59GB

Thats odd. I only have 10 autosave files in my game.

Maybe it is 10 autosaves per map.

Well, I haven't had the time to actually play so much with the last updates, maybe it is something that has been added recently?
Oh, maybe its something new, will have to have a clear out and test.
I have 4gb of autosaves, 5.5gb inc named saves.
