en route destination change
hi guys. Noob here trying to learn the ropes. i want to know if it is possible to change a trains destination to a station other than the next listed station on the list. while it is "en route" so to speak. i want to skip a station but not delete it from the list. i tried highlighting a particular station on my list and and left/ right clicking but cant change the trains destination. any help would be much appreciated

There's no way I know of to "skip" a station; the only option you really have is to turn it around 180 degrees and send it back to where it has just come from.

You can add the station as a stop later on in the line's setup, then remove the stop that's next. After it's passed you could add the original stop back in, and remove the other. As long as you keep the stop in the line someplace it won't loose cargo or people going to it.

However, saying this, a patch a while back changed the routing logic and path find to reset back to the first stop when things change, so this might not work as a temporary skip.

Why do you want or need to skip a stop just once? It shouldn't matter.

basiclally, due to my ineptitude, i deleted the wrong station on one of my lines.there are 7 stations on the line. when i replaced it to the list the train had shed its cargo to the great depot in the sky. so i wanted to send it back to that same station as there was an abundance of steel to take to the next station (TOOLWORKS) on the list but couldnt get it to return as it had already decided that heading to the toolworks without any steel was a much smarter option. the fact that there are 7 stops on the list and are some distance apart meant a "real time" wait of around 30 minuits before it would return. im not in any way comparing this game with the old railroad tycoon games as i feel TF is far superior but i seem to remember that if i clicked on a particular station in that game the train would go straight to it. i tried reversing the train but it would still not return to the desired station. im still a puppy on this game so if i get it wrong, rub my nose in it and ill soon learn. thanks for your advice guys

I get a similar problem quite often. Usually I do 2-station train lines, one feeder (e.g. a farm or quarry) and the other receiver. When I send the train to the depot (e.g. to add or remove a car), sometimes the train picks up a wrong station when leaving the depot (i.e. the receiver station), even though it's not the first on the line and it was heading for station #1 before I sent it to the depot. Clearly, the ability to reroute to next station (or any station on the line) seems like a no-brainer feature to me.
Currently, I usually just delete all the other stations from the line which forces the train to pick a route to the desired station (sometimes dumping the load in the process), then re-add the other station(s). I could live with this if it was only caused by my mistakes, but sometimes it's because of the game's bugs/quirks and that annoys me a lot.

New trains frequently head for the wrong destination so I create a fake line to force the train to where I want it and then re-route it once it is close
