One Train Line Using Multiple Platforms?
I'm having a problem where I want a "Green Line" train exiting my station at platform one, make a trip to the next station, then come back and arrive at platform two. Is there any way to do this?

Don't think so, but what's the purpose of the platform switch anyway. Won't it need to transfer to platform one anyway to begin the next trip?

Just wondering if you could trick into doing this by creating a fake station beyond the one you start from so the train thinks its passing through platform two on its way to another stop and then heads for platform one on its return trip.

Game isn't setup to have separate entrance/exit terminals for the same stops on any train line....

If you setup your line so that it's A1-B1-A2-B2, you can have trains alternate which platforms they use. Cargo or passengers will split between the two stops, and it can be a way to increase the number of vehicles (ie capacity of a line) by using separate platforms at both ends of the line. You have to then manually flip your vehicles around to ensure they alternate instead of queuing. I've done it in my European series with ships in particular, but I've seen it done with Trucks, and no reason it can't be done with trains or planes either.

If you setup a line to be A1-B-A2, and expect the train to hop from platform 1 to platform 2 without some intermediate stop (not just a waypoint) elsewhere you're not going to be able to do what you want to do.

The question of course would be why?

Ok! Well i managed to make it work.

Then by adding a Fake Station beyond Hartford i can get the train to treat it as a through station and use platform two on the return trip.

I tried replacing the fake station with a simple looped track, but that creates a consecutive station error.

Signalling for efficient double track operation is pretty simple. It just needs a cross-over at the approach to every station with two signals to control traffic flow.

Argueably in the screenshot above i could have got away with just one signal as the platform has an impied signal anyway. I just like to have all my signals visible,

I've also added pairs of signals at intervals (over one trains length) along the tracks to allow for multi-train operation. Although in this instance with only one train in use they were a waste of money.

That's not a 'fake' station! More of a 'hold point' station that passengers still will unload at! You can control spacing with such stations too.

Even though its a freight depot with no demand connection?

No different than when trains arrive at an off stop only station here in my hometown... One of them is double tracked, usually serving the track immediately adjacent to the station terminal itself but sometimes when two trains are here, also the second track is used to unload only.... Also, there's no grade separation between the tracks (the same as there is none for passengers in cargo stations).

The zig-zag station works well for creating a turn-around non-interactive station.

Zig-zag station?

It removes the street connections. And also has been able to make a more realistic cargo exchange look.

If the station is not at the end of the line, I think you can. For example, if you had a line of three stations, A on the left, B in the centre, C on the right... You could obviously use some sort of loop of a line of A -> B -> C (and it obviously then loops back to A, skipping B), or you could have the line be A -> B -> C -> B (and then obviously back to A). In such a case, I'm pretty sure if you select Station B, and then click "Terminals", you can individually set B[2] and B[4] to different platforms. It treats both visits to the station as a different stop and therefore able to be a different terminal. Of course, Station A only appears once on the line, so you can't set that one to different terminals, however stations along the line can be thus set.

As others have said, you'll also need a set of points outside the station, so trains can change track, and you'll need signals.

simply set waypoints and put the waypoints into the station sequence of the selected line (be sure your train can really reach every point).

I hope you don't mind me asking, but I'm confused. Why is switching to a different platform each trip necessary? (All the platforms at a station are all the same- the only difference is which tracks go to which platform).
