regarding the "Load All / Load Any" feature, here's how you could use it i guess :
Let's take the refinery example (crude oil as input, outputs oil and/or fuel according to what you retrieve at refinery).
If your train has fuel and oil wagons, you can :
- (load any) leave station as soon as either fuel or oil is retrieved
- (load all) wait for both oil & fuel wagons to be full
I guess it's a per-case use, finally ..
For example switching from "load all" to "load any", when production is decreasing, so trains won't block the whole fuel line while waiting for oil.
Regarding the "all trains from one line will stick/attach to a static station track" limitation, although i agree it's another big loss when compared to TTD/openTTD signaling&routing, it gives us another challenge :)
I personally set up all my tracks at any multi-track stations to be reachable by any incoming train ; those stations are located on simple 2 x 1 tracks (eg: 1 for south-north traffic, the second for north-south traffic).
Multiple lines may share that pair of tracks to reach their destinations).
Then, i create at least two rail lines between the same pair (or more, i limite to three stops on freight lines, eg: crudeoil->refinery(fuel)->city) of stations, so TransportFever will use another slot at those stations.
Then, according to the length of my tracks between stations, i queue up as many trains as i can, before filling all rail segments in one direction (segments defined by path signals, forcing trains to stay/join the correct lane, for their current route (north->south or opposite), driving on right side).
I agree it's a huge loss when compared to TTD/openTTD, but ... the game is still quite enjoyable/fun to play :)
And .. who knows .. one day we may find or get signaling modding capabilities documented/exposed :)
[hoping to get entry/exit/combo signals at least :p ]
Just asking what the benefit is to full loading. The train still has maintenance costs while it's loading, and the only difference between full loading and doing a quick stop is that full loading creates more congestion. I suppose a ro-ro would solve congestion, but then you have a longer track and travel time...
For simple 1 item lines it can be easier to min/max it
Wait for full loads only works for passenger lines.
