Transport Fever Performance
Here is a chart showing "threads count", "% CPU Usage" and "Private Bytes"
I made this to monitor Transport Fever.

So I started the game at 2:43 and ended at 3:43.
The game start and I load my save game : 2:48
I make some construction work (upgrading stations and rail network to get electricity and high speed track on 2 lines)
I finish the construction work at 3:13 and unpause the game.
I played 12 months till 3:43.

the thread count (dashed blue) show how many threads are running.
the %CPU Usage (turquoise) show the Percentage of CPU Usage
The Private Bytes (Rose) show the memory allocated for a process that it's not shared.

What you can learn from this :

You can clearly see the 12 end of month (from 3:13 to 3:43)
At each end of month, the application create a thread that result in a high peak of CPU usage and the process allocate some memory for this new thread. Once it's done, thread is disposed, CPU usage drops and memory is released.

After one hour of gameplay. I didn't see something that may look as a memory leak.

Then try a game with hundreds of vehicles and lines and 100 mio a year in profit. Can we share saves on workshop. I have such save that I have dropped for now cause it lags too much. So I started on a new game instead. I need the performance patch or to upgrade to a I7 6700K. Now I have a I7 2600K, 16 GB RAM, GTX 970 and game on ssd.

I've more than 190 M$ Profit/year.
More than 300 vehicles
Cities with almost 4000 pop.

I've a little i3-3110M 2.4Ghz, Geforce 710M, 8Gb RAM.

What resolution do you play in ? mine is 1920x1200.

It's a laptop resolution 1366*768.
However please note that this post is not about lags and stutters. I have some too at end of month, while zooming to large cities, ... It's a post to show how the game behave and also to mention that, as far as I've seen, there is no memory leak (That some mentionned to be a cause of lag). For the rest, I play on small map, with all options to low and the game is smooth apart from the "lag events" mentionned above.

I have i7 5930K @3.5GHz, 64 Gb RAM, GTX 1080@2560x1440 and 1Tb Ultra Fast SSD.
And the game lags incredibly!!!
10-12 fps if I ride on the train.

Hey, Transport Fever?! We need the performance patch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone played Transport Tycoon Deluxe on an Intel 486 DX2/66 in the past? Any idea, how slow this game was in the endgame, full of traffic? When you had to run the computer the whole day for just ONE day of ingame time?

No patience nowadays... no patience... :D

But... if you would READ the forum, before posting anything... then you would KNOW, that there's already a Performance-Patch on the BETA-Channel - just subscribe to it!

Kids have no idea what those things are. The old 486, or the "new" Pentium processors! My first computer I played on was an Atari 800 XL, playing Boulderdash on the old 5 1/4in floppys! LOL. Grew up on that and a NES......

Still remember the day the family got a new computer, 166mhz with windows 95.

Just no one knows the history of gaming like the ones that grew up with it.

HaHa I started on the Commodore 64 went and made my tea while a game loaded from cassette. I have the Beta and it gives about 23 fps riding a train. This is with the R390 card.

Incidentally. I did play TTD and TT on a machine not much stronger then that back in 1996. I ran fine on Pentium 60mhz and 8 megs of memory. It also limited you to 120 trucks, 80 trains and afair 40 planes and ships. It also had about 600 total vehicle limit.

On the other hand TF stutters and struggles on top end machines at times when you simply cannot count on further computational power increase.

On the other hand, my GPU is at all time high 30% utilisation in highest settings. it doesn't even spin its fans above idling speed.
The Pentium was WAY faster on TT Deluxe, then the 486.

On topic: If you already have subscribed to the beta patch and experience low fps... did you already tried to play around with the quality settings and take a look, if this makes a difference?

I've just experienced, that TpF doesn't prevent the computer from going into standby, but i don't have a savegame far enough to experience your performance issues.

60mhz pentium p54c had the speed of 100mhz 486dx4. So it was faster by about 50% then 486DX2 66. That is significant, but not drastic. The game was plenty of playable on 486dx2 66.

If we assume that 60Mhz pentium was maxed by TTD and full year would take approx 1000 seconds. So a slower DX2 66 would take 1500 seconds, not a 'full day'. In reality it would be choppier, but not by much.
That is not true. I had both of 'em. And the Pentium 60 didn't had any problems with TTD - the 486 had performance issues.
Don't just compare the speed of the core, you're ignoring the busspeed and changed architecture.

8086 -> 286 (NEAT, 16 MHz) -> 486 DX2/66 -> 486 DX4/100 -> Pentium 60 -> Pentium 90 -> Pentium 233 MMX - i owned 'em all and know their strength's - and weaknesses.

And trust me: The 486 had to run the whole night for just one day, if the map was really full in the endgame with highspeed monorails, planes and ships.
Or are you calculating with fantasy-ratings from google and Open TTD? That is not the same, not true and totally wrong.

EDIT:
I just see, that my gpu (GTX 760, Kepler) is throtteling - seem to be a powermanagement problem. How about disabling the power management via profile through the gpu driver?

if you had an ISA VGA on the 486, then most likely. But VLB VGA on 486 had the potential to be faster then any PCI card on the pentium. Being plugged directly to CPU memory bus is one hell of a thing.

You might do more comperhensive reading. I explicitly stated equivalence of 100mhz 486 and 60mhz pentium. I am still kind of salty that I then fell for the pentium meme and didn't get 133mhz 486 which was both cheaper and faster when I was buying that PC.

Please, tell me more about TTD architecture. It's not like I didn't play that game almost exclusively for 10 years. I even wrote code for TTDpatch and made the second ever custom vehicle set for that game.

Can you read? Then backpedal and read more carefully. I doubt if OpenTTD would even start on 486, or even non-SSE cpu.
