Best way to put in Overpass/Tunnels?
I've put in overpasses over rail and road, and tunnels also. But they always end up looking lop-sided and misshapen, and probably a lot more expensive than they need to be. What is the best way to start an overpass/tunnel? Work from both sides? How far back? How high/deep should I change elevation?

I prefer road underpass if possible, the rail is flat, compare to this flying junction, the rail as slope, roads dont mind slope.

If you want to put short road tunnels under tracks this mod may help:

If you don't want the over/underpath to be missshaped or bend, you'll have to flatten the area first. E.g. build a straigt and flat road where you want the overpath to be. Extend the road on both ends, straigt and flat. Demolish the middle section. Reconnect the now disconnected road again and lift the road up or down with the m/n key. Now demolish both end sections.
That way, the bridge/tunnel will not get misshaped, which will happen, if both ends of the over/underpath are not on the same level.

I usually drag a road as long as I can in the space available then use the M/N keys to raise/lower it. This usually leads to a pretty smooth tunnel or bridge.

You can configure the Flying Junction just as you've described, it has tons of options...

I stumbled across this video sometime back. It was a great help in improving my bridge building technique.

You can add extra street types and the length of the tunnel by just adding parameters to the .Con file in the mod folder. Too bad it can't go any deeper than 10m without adjusting the terrain.
The great thing about this mod is the tracks can practically sit just above tunnel. With the manual tunnels you need to dig to core of Earth to go under anything!

Dig a hole before you lay the track. Then lay the track but don't build a bridge. Remove track, build a road to that space and ensure you have enough height, you might want to dip down a tad or two. Landscape the ends of trackbed to slightly wider after road is done. Rebuild tracks and this time do bridges. Nice and neat, level track.
