Setting vehicle upgrades
Is there any way to make a blanket vehicle upgrade definition? Like if NewBus becomes available, NewBus will be the default upgrade for ALL instances of OldBus within the game. So that I could just set each line to upgrade at 100% and know that it would upgrade to whatever I had selected for that vehicle type.

As far as I can tell, every stinking vehicle that becomes out of date needs to be individualy upgraded (or at least on a line by line basis). On a large map with hundreds of vehicles this is tedious, to say the least.

Thanks.

Not without mods. And I doubt it is possible with mods either but anything can happen :)

Exactly this is for me the most annoying thing in game.

After thinking about this - I don't think it's possible at all, and even then, how would it affect your game? Would all your lines automatically upgrade to the newest loco released? Or the latest freight / passenger wagon? What about MUs?
It would immediately break the game. If not by crashing the game itself, it would crash your supply chains.
What if the loco you auto-upgrade because newer is much weaker, and your trains can't even go up an incline? Or so much more powerful and expensive you'll be in minus? Or if your newest passenger car is high-speed, high-capacity, very expensive in purchase and running costs and all your lines immediately become a financial catastrophe?
No, all things consdered, it would be not only impossible but game breaking as well.
And we didn't even talk about the few thousand mods that are different in balancing, running costs, etc etc.

Trains are generally far too complex to auto-upgrade when something new comes out.
Busses, trucks and trams on the other hand are usually pretty straightforward.
I would like to see at least a semi-automatic upgrade system, where you can choose to replace all [old model] with [new model] where both models are a user selectable vehicle/set. That way you could quickly replace all old busses with new busses, or replace a specific train configuration with an equivalent-but-better configuration without affecting other vehicles.

Unfortunately it's unlikely to ever happen :(

Upgrading trains isn't the problem. With hundreds of lines, the problem is trucks and busses. It's always better to upgrade to a higher capacity vehicle. If they could just automate those two to always upgrade with the highest capacity vehicle, that would go a long way toward eliminating the clickfest.

What about automating the whole game and sit back with your arms crossed and just watch it while drinking liters of coffee and beer ?..

Remember how upgrading vehicles went in the initial version of Train Fever ??.... Now THAT was tedious ! I think the devs did a great job dealing with that in the later versions and TpF.

You don't have to upgrade *everytime* a new vehicle becomes available. (sometimes the difference is just 1 or 2 pax or cargo) Just make sure vehicle upgrade is set with the same vehicle, i use 75% ( i do think visual wear and tear particularly on train models is quite a bit over the top. They look like coming right out of the scrapyard after only half of their life).

Par example, when the time comes i put each and every bus line dialog on the screen, click the new vehicle for every line in a row, then click 'replace now' for every line in a row and then click all dialogs away. Bob's my uncle in just a couple minutes. I do the same with all tram- and truck lines, all at once as well. No problem really.

Trains i do individually because i might want to change the config depending on passenger or cargo needs. If lots of trains running that *can* be a bit tedious, yes, but i think it's still fun and wouldn't want it to be automated at all.

Just my 2 cents.

It's definitely nowhere near as bad as it was on Train Fever where all vehicles and trains had to be sold in the depot one by one and new ones bought to replace them. Now that was tedious.

But even then, it wouldn't hurt to have an option where i can manually select replace type x with type y now. This way i could control what gets upgraded with what.

Not sure why you would want to upgrade to a bigger capacity / newer every time a newer vehicle is available. Some lines may not have the demand and some lines may need extra buses. When upgrading it's a great opportunity to evaluate the line's performance and see if it can be improved in any way... for example, additional stops or capacity adjustments.
