No private cars mod?
As the title says, is there anything like that available for Transport Fever? Searching the workshop doesn't give any good result. If not, does anyone know if there's some gamefile I can modify myself to either get rid or drastically reduce the amount of cars around?

Before you say that competing with private traffic is a key part of the gameplay, I know and honestly don't really care for two reasons: first, I'm more a model-train-set kind of player, second I noticed that, even with thenewest patch, tha game's performance tanks (admittedly, a lot less than before, still enough to be annoying) as soon as private cars start popping out. I suppose that all those pathfinding calls are not helping.

I wish it could be done. Have tried many things but was not able to find a solution. If you delete all private cars or edit them to not be available the game crashes. It seems the only way to reduce private cars is to provide a good public transport system.

I don't think it would be possible as it such a core part of the game in the mechanics on how they choose to travel...

I remember that in Tran Fever you could prevent them from spawning by setting their max top speed to something ridiculously low, so that the don't spawn just because the AI consider then less efficient than walking. Can't this be done in Transport Fever too?

That is something I have not tried yet. Will try and report back.

Cars are a visual cue to show you that your passenger network could be better. If you create a good public transport system that services both fast and cheap preferences, then you will not see many cars.

I understand all the gameplay reasons in the world; as I said I don't care one bit about them, plus I can't create an efficient public transport system if the game hangs for several minutes every half an hour because of the cars. And that's after the performance patch, before it just became a slideshow.
So either I throw in the trashcan all my maps as soon as the XIX century ends, or I find a way to disable private cars.

Just use the Stop Intial Roads mod or deactive them by changing two settings in base config. If you need to use trucks download the traffic filter.

I never thought of that, I'll try!

After some trials:

Setting maxSpeed to 0 or 1 km/h only make cars drive very slow but they still appear.

No inital roads between towns and using traffic filter: cars are still used for travel within a town.

New Idea I have is to change all roads config files so they don't allow cars, just trucks, busses and trams, so basicly a traffic filter applied to all roads.
Edit: Also does not stop cars from spawning, should have know cars have always already used bus lanes on the last part of there route to a building. It seems that if there is no other way cars just use bus/truck lanes to get where they want to go.

Unfortunate, but thank you for your effort. It seems that I'm stuck with the late game slideshow unless I make a very unrealistic everything directly connected with everything else kind of network.

There seems to be a cyclic behavior pehaps to mimic a morning and evening worker commute that fills the roads between cities with cars. If one checks what the drivers are doing in almost every case the game states that the driver is going to work or is coming back home from work in the neighboring city. During these commutes the city appears to experience a period of significant reduction in traffic.

I did not notice this behavior until I reduced the speed of cars to 5 and it seems that because those cars would spend more time commuting to and from the other city it reduces the traffic snarls within the city for an equal period of time. Whether reducing the speed to rediculously slow levels actually causes some drivers to give up their cars is difficult to determine. Perhaps a lengthier test would give us more answers but I am not prepared do such an intense study because I do not like the idea of not having any cars or having cars move unrealisticly slow.

To stop cars, but still keep the town connected for passenger trains. Just plop an ultimate or flexible station (with 4-6 road connections) in the middle of a small town. Do not build a road across the tracks. If the peeps want to go to the other side of town they must walk though you station instead. Using SIR mod.

I tried to change the year of availability of civil transport and that you would think the game crashes when it reaches 1900

Put in more bus and train routes and you won't have traffic. Even my 4000+ cities have very little traffic.

Guys, proposing better line coverage is NOT a valid solution, not everyone has a playstyle that permits high density networks. Matter of fact is that the cars spawn too much, too quick and too early.
