Crash to desktop
Happens every time i get into this game... as soon as i get a reasonably complex rail network covering more than 5 or 6 cities, something happens & it goes all CTD. I have at least 3 or 4 save games that just crash to desktop a minute or so after you load them. I'm not sure i've ever made it past the 1930s.

No mods or anything installed, indeed ive never figured out how to use mods in this game.. ive never been allowed to get that far into it.

Is there something in particular i need to do (or avoid doing) in order to get this game to run? Am i supposed to keep the vehicle count under 100 or something? Is that it? I know smaller maps isnt the answer.

I'd really like to like this game... it just wont let me.

Crashes seem rather rare without mods, but there seem to be some problems f.ex. with OSX and/or low V/RAM.
It might help to provide some system info (OS, GPU) and/or the contents of stderr.txt, stdout.txt in: <path_to>\Steam\userdata\<steam_id>\446800\local\crash_dump\
If these crashes reproduce reliably, you could also upload one of these savegames for us to test.

Also try to monitor your Processor and RAM usage. From my expirience the game uses 5-6 GB RAM without mods and with mods it can really go up 14GB, depending on how many mods are used / installed.
As Thork mentioned already, your system information would be really helpful to see where the problem is.

System is a i7 3.4 ghz quad core. 12 gb RAM w/ 4gb nvidia GTX 745 Win10
will dig around & see if i can find that crash dump
horsebrackets Jan 18, 2018 @ 8:56am
think i found it.. where do i upload to?
Dirkels Jan 18, 2018 @ 8:57am
Pasted the last few (complicated looking) lines here.
Thork Jan 18, 2018 @ 8:58am
For the .txt files, you could just open them with any editor and copy the contents in here.
If you don't want to do that or want to provide a savegame, simply use whatever filehost[duckduckgo.com] you like...

stderr.txt is empty

stdout.txt ends with....

is it because of those missing .tga files?
Thork Jan 18, 2018 @ 9:30am
Some of these errors are "normal", because some tga files seem to never load into cache (for whatever reason).
However, I doubt that I ever seen the mikado related files in that log.
The other error seems much more important:
c:\build\transport_fever\steam\transport_fever_release\src\game\transport\move_path_util_common.cpp:164: class std::vector<struct std::pair<struct transport::EdgeId,bool>,class std::allocator<struct std::pair<struct transport::EdgeId,bool> > > __cdecl vehicle_util::common::`anonymous-namespace'::FindPathToStop2(const struct vehicle_util::MovePathUtilContext &,const class std::vector<struct std::pair<struct transport::EdgeId,bool>,class std::allocator<struct std::pair<struct transport::EdgeId,bool> > > &,class std::bitset<16>,const class ecs::Entity &,int,float &,int &): Assertion `alternativeNodes.empty() || !assignedNodes.empty()' failed.
However, I personally can't read much out of that.
If you really got no mods running, it might be best to send that error and also probably dumpfile to the devs.

Anyway, you should first try to delete the cache and verify integrity of the game files.
Delete all files in: <path_to>\steam\userdata\<steam_id>\446800\local\texture_cache\
Rightclick "Transport Fever" in steam -> Properties -> Local Files -> "Verify integrity of game files..."
Gulgir Jan 18, 2018 @ 9:35am
If it would be because of the missing tga files my games should also crash.

Also if you look for "mikado" in the workshop you find one locomotive just fyi @Thork.
Thork Jan 18, 2018 @ 9:43am
It's also a standard game-file...
However, it could be that the cache was created before a game update made a critical change to it (or some random error occured on creation). The following error still seems strange/unrelated, but worth a try to delete said cache to force a recreation.

Well i did subscribe to some mods at one point, but couldnt figure out how to actually use them in-game (do they need to be turned on in some option screen or something?) anyway, I unsubscribed to them, but maybe theres some residual files/entries in there somewhere?

Anyway, trying the cache thing.. will report back.
Thork Jan 18, 2018 @ 9:52am
Simply subscribing should not load any modfiles.
You need to actually activate them in a list available either in: free game -> custom -> advanced, or when pressing the "+" symbol while loading a savegame.

2-8-2 Heavy Mikado
"Mikados" were the most common freight locomotives until the end of steam. More than 9'500 were used in the USA.
Built: 1918
Top speed: 80 km/h
Weight: 219 tons
Power: 1650 kW
Traction: 240 kN

Maybe some issues with that baby?

It is part of the original game.
