MacBook Air - performance with Intel GPU

Wondering what the model year of the MacBook Air that the game performance begins to be acceptable. My really old MBA from 2011 is obviously unplayable, but wondering if I'd be happy enough with current year MBA, or should I be looking at MacBook Pro instead?

The stores minimum requirements list a NVIDIA and AMD Radeon, but the MBA uses a Intel video chip. Also unsure of the MBA GPU memory, and how it compares to the 1GB minimum req of the game.

I wouldn't worry too much about the GPU but much more on the CPU side. The game is asking for a minimum of a 3.0GHz 2 cores CPU. Most high end Macbook Pro can go up to 2.4Ghz... Of course there's the turbo boost (up to 4.0GHz) but I don't know if it's good enough to keep up with the game. I don't really know how turbo boost really work... But I believe it's going to be really toasty in there so you will loose performance.

The GPU is not that important, the current Intel Iris 655 have 1GB of VRAM, but since it's gonna be toasty, it's not going to be great. A solution could be getting an eGPU.

As for the MacBook Air, I highly doubt it's going to work out. It's only a dual core CPU that can boost to 3.6Ghz. You really won't play big maps and I think it's safe to assume that you won't play with a lot of mods if any.

Although watch out, there's no official definition for a "minimum requirement". Some will say it's just you can start the game others will say, you can play with a decent FPS.


In the end, maybe it's better to lookout for a cheap gaming computer or some other Apple Mac Pro/iMac with a graphic card.

Note : Mac OS is great for a lot of stuff but for gaming... It isn't.

Thanks for the input. My original plan was to rebuild my PC, but wanted to see if a MacBook of certain types would also be viable, which it probably isn't.
