Sonic boom achievement
I had a Concorde with 1061km/hr, it seems not enough for breaking the sound barrier, I thought that this barrier was 1000km/hr, according to gamer Maculator it must be 1200 plus in the game, anyone?

No, Concorde will work, but you need to have a trip long enough for the plane to reach top speed.

If you use a large map, 1:5 ratio. Setup an airport on each end with one airport takeoff direction off the long end of the map, the other has the landing off the long end of the map (both airports oriented the same way) will create a very long path. That gives the Concord time to get max speed.

I did it as you explained but on the Monterico small map 1.3 for hard mode, because at he end I had the money for the Concorde and airports and it works as you said, airports a bit outside the map and so on, I reached 1058 and 1061km/hr, so I suppose it has to be more than that for the achievement

I was wrong on the ratio, it needs the 1:5 on large. It's basically setting up the longest possible path for a plane route.

I got it on a 1:2 large map. And yes, it has to be over 1200km/h.
I screencapped when I got the achieve:

thanks Vimpster, I suppose that I will have to play on a large map than

I just looked it up on Wikipedia and yes the devs are right, at a temperature of 20°C in the air, the speed should be 1234.8kms/hr.

It also depends on the altitude. At lower altitude the air is denser and causes the sound barrier to be lower if I'm not mistaken.

I'm using the same map, so I shan't bother trying for this achievement.

No Didz it's useless, I tried for 3hrs, the max was 1061kms/hr
Dirkels Jan 9, 2018 @ 11:20am
Just tried it on a megalonamic map and reached a top speed of 1433 km/h :steamhappy:

Congrats Dirkels!

You are mistaken, sir! :) And a common mistake as most people belive this.
The speed of sound in air is for all practial applications only dependant on temperature (pressure, humidity, frequency and small deviations in air composition also changes the speed of sound, but all togheter less than 1-2 m/s total) The fact that it changes with altitude has to do with the fact that the atmosphere changes in temperature as altitude changes.

Most people think that because the air is denser at low altidude, the sound will "spread faster" due to the fact that the air molicules are closer together, than at high altitude where the distance between the air molecules are "larger".
However, thats not how it works. Think of this example:
Take two tubes 10m long. Fill one tube with 10 balls equally spaced from the start to the end of the tube, and the other tubes with just two balls, one at the start and one at the end. Now, give the two balls at each start 10m/s speed, and time how long it takes the "information" (="speed of sound") to travel to the end of the tube, and eject the last ball in each tube. Ignoring friction loss in the interaction between the balls, the last balls from each tube will eject at the same time, 1 s after the first balls where set in motion. The distance between the balls (air pressure) is irrelevant with regards to how fast the information traveled down the tube.
This it the way sound travels in air as well, and hence why preassure has (almost) no effect on the speed of sound.

Just completed this achieve on a large 1:1 map by going corner to corner while arranging the airport so that my concord left the map upon takeoff and had to fly off map at the other end to land thus giving more flight time before it started to decelerate.

I also did this achievment, I use 1:3 ratio Large map, play on easy, Europe, Build an airport at a town in the bottom left corner and the other on the top right corner of the map, so the plane travel diagonal across the map to maximize speed. I did try before and it fail... not far enought.. and after I win the accomplishment, I replace to a slower and profitable plane like with a Boing...The Concorde was not making a profit ..yeah even in easy mode ...
Dirkels Jun 9, 2018 @ 4:55pm
Concorde is not making a profit is totally realistic ;-)
