Houston Harbor not stocking goods from factory
In USA mission 6 there is a side mission to deliver goods to NO from Houston Harbor. No matter what I try nothing is delivered to the harbor for shipping. I have a ship with a line setup, and even setup trucking in NO to take the end goods to the streets. Any clues?

Without any screenshots, I can only guess:

  • You're using the wrong kind of ship to try to transport the goods (not all ships can carry Goods).

  • You're using a bus station instead of a truck station to "pick up" the Goods from the NO-end docks.

  • Aliens.

Perhaps you have too few boats for it to be viable considering how long it would take for a single boat to make a round trip.

I watched one of the 5 gold medal walkthroughs and the guy had my same issues. I will replicate what he did to get it going. Will try adding more ships first to see if that works. I have a freight station at the other end picking them from the dock so that isnt the case. Also using the paddle wheel boat as it can take goods, the tankers obvioulsy unable to pick them up so that is out. Aliens probably the cause :D

I used trains for it myself. But it does require a fair bit of money investment to get started.

I ran a freight truck line from the Houston Harbor to NO. Took a lot of trucks, but once it gets going it worked well.

Used trucks as well for that

I did the same. I've read of folks using ships to deliver goods to Lake Charles, and then using trucks the rest of the way across the Mississippi to New Orleans, though. Didn't try this myself.

Even if you don't want to drop the cash to get the goods all the way to New Orleans by train, you can at least get them to the Neches River, unload there, and use the existing road bridge to truck them over to Lake Charles (and, from there, on to New Orleans). It's a lot slower, but it'll save you a small fortune on not having to bridge either of those infernal rivers early in the scenario.

the line would work only when frequency < 20min, so one ship will not work, use trucks, or you need 4 more ships to carry

I'm having trouble with this mission. The train yard, truck depot and shipyard wont stock goods as much as I try nothing will leave yet it tells me i need to ship more goods?

It also looks like the whole level is glitched... I mined the wells and it looks like passengers won't load onto trains to get to NO. What the heck? I'm going to restart but I hope these bugs can be worked out.

There are quite a few reasons why you might be running into those issues, although to be honest I have to think that it would have been hard for you to make it that far in the campaign without being able to avoid those reasons. So perhaps it is some sort of bug, but I haven't seen it on the mission, so here are some possibilities:

  • The harbor won't send goods to the train yard, truck depot, or shipyard unless you have lines set up to deliver them to the various towns. A truck line to Beaumont is a good start. (If you can spare the cash, a train line to New Orleans is $$$)

  • It takes time for passenger demand to "kick in," and the longer the route, the longer it's likely to take. Houston <> New Orleans isn't a short route. It might take a couple of months before passenger start showing up. Make sure that you have local transport options (i.e. buses) to take people to the train stations, as well.

Thnaks for the tips but I did have lines. I tried ships first settings up a port and truck depot from the port to the industury located truck depot. That didn't do anything.

I tried from the truck depot there at the port to the truck depot in NO. The trucks would go there and back but not take any goods.

Since the end mission requires ferrying passegers to NO (i couldn't get them there fast enough the first time I played the mission, of which none of this was an issue), i built a railway there since I would need to anyway and no goods would still ship.

One thing I did notice is that the gas being shipped to the yard wasn't producing any goods just consuming the gas and giving me credit for the goods for the mission and even though I got the 5000 goods needed, i still had oil wells with oil but after that completed the wells would start to say they had negative amounts.

Also, no passengers would get on the train. I had each train depot (for passengers) in residential zones and I also (for good measure) put bus stops next to the train station and bus stops around the city with a line to help them get around. I also had bus depots to ferry passengers from dallas and the city to the left to houston to try and build up some customers to get on the train to NO (but no passenger bus routes between houston and NO).

I'm going to try again tonight. I love the game since i liked a lot of similar games since the earliest types but run into issues with trains and running them on tracks that can switch over so I basically have to run one train per track with no sharing but I can live with that.

Do you have any screenshots of your line and station setup in New Orleans and other would-be "delivery cities"? The issues you ran into sound unusual if things are properly setup, so I'd like take a look at them and see what's going on.

(I'll also accept save game files!)

Well looks like on this round I was able to get the shipments going. I "think" the issue was that the depots were in the industrial area and goods need a commercial zone. I placed my depot on the border and they both delivered no problem this round.

Now the problem I have is the passenger train portion. I created 4 lines to try and get the 180 second requirement but even with 4 trains running it wasn't doing it. So I looked into it more and learned about the signals and got 1 track with 4 trains running successfully. Now the issue is that passengers just stopped coming to the station after I deleted the other lines I didn't need and focused on the one. Arg... so frustrating.

I'd send my save file, what's the best way to get it over?

Since passengers (like all agents in the game) are line-specific, yeah, deleting a bunch of redundant lines would do that. However, the demand should all shift over to the remaining line after a while. It might take a couple of months.

The easiest file transfer option for me would be Dropbox. If you're still having issues, I might be able to take a look tonight after work.
