When playing a sandbox game can you change the Amount of money you start with?
When playing a sandbox game can you change the Amount of money you start with?

I looked through all the files and could not find the starting amount in the files you can edit.

Any help would be appreciated.

I believe that the amount of money you start with is a function of the difficulty level you select.

Not having paid much attention to the detail I seem to recall that at easy level you start with 9.0M and at normal 4.0M. Never played on hard so no idea what the starting money is for that.

That said: if money is an issue and all you want to do is build stuff then go to Advanced options and activate the no costs option. You'll make money but there will be ZERO costs to anything you do.

Probably not the answer you wanted but as close as this one can get. Maybe a modder will jump in and answer.

Nope. The start money and max loan is pending on start year and difficulty.
However, starting at 1850 at easy can easily give you a cash cow to milk.

1850 is a hard start, even on "easy". That 10mil loan will mostly be sunk into track, leaving very little left for trains. Even on "flat" maps, you will find that the terraforming of land is VERY expensive and will cost you dealy for mistakes.

1900 is a little bit easier of a start, with 9mil to start with on easy, and a 30mil max loan, you can easily build a good track system and have good trains.

1950 is a 30mil start loan on easy with a 100mil max loan, you can build a very good track system with that starting 30 mil. What I do to limit myself on track (and not go crazy) is a pay down the loan till I have 9mil, then I build the track/stations with that 9mil. Then I start to "re borrow" the money back for the locomotives/cars ect, and the buses/trams.

I'm not sure of your strategy. In 1850 I can usually pay back all my loans in 3 - 5 years and I don't even have to borrow 10M.

No doubt you know about it, but if not there's a way of adding money, but it involves a cheat [*ahem ;-) ], whereby at the press of a key on the keyboard it'll then increase your balance by 10mill each time, and yes, I know it's "not playing the game", but it gives you carte blanche to play the game to your hearts desire, especially in Sandbox mode.

I use cheatengine for my testing, usually i do not bother as money on easy is easy ;)

Good luck with that then ;-) , but I wasn't referring to Cheat Engine, as I personally don't "tinker" with the game per se. I simply use a "trainer" for some games but not everytime I play a game, and not with all games.

They trainer doesn#t do anything diffenrent than CE, it just has a logic to find the money value, something you have to do manuallyin CE, unless you program a table in CE for that.

Nice to know, and I guessed that is what a "trainer" does, but as I said I don't "tinker" with the game myself, I've not got the wit, or time for it, hence my use of a "trainer".

If you are using trains you will use that 10 mil, unless you have a short line, with passing sidings and terminal stations with a few locomotives.

See I usually go for what I will be using for the rest of the game, I don't build for the era I am in, I build for the Eras I WILL be in, most of the time it works.... Basically I attempt to "future proof" my lines when I first lay them down.

Then you are making it hard for yourself, it doesn't have to be that hard ;)

To be honest if you play on easy start in 1850 by the early 1900' you will be rolling in money. You can literally build what you like.

You have no idea what i want to build ;)

But generally on easy i have no real money problem and you can build quite a lot.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\"your steam id"\446800\local\save
It is .SAV files tho. So do not know how to edit em. But there you can edit your saved files. Then also the money.
But. I use cheathappens. Works like a charm.

you can edit the save file yes but theres no writing in there about changing money.. i typed in the search box to find cash or money or funds it does not find those.. and cheat happens recommends using a trainer my virus scanner has a fit over those
