How to build a town from scratch?
Hey folks... First off let me say a HUGE thank you to Urban Games for the best release of the year :). However, is there anyway to build a town from scratch? I would like either a MOD to place city buildings down or a way of being able to create a map and place my own towns down. I have looked it up on the net and building a map is well outside my skill set as i learned when i tryed to work GIMP lol.
Please could someone let me know if there is a solution to this.

Thanks in advance.

Currently I can only say with a 100% certainty that the only way to have towns build where you want is via the map generator with your own map. I haven't gotten as far as adding my own landmarks, but I believe it is possible.

No it's not possible. you can't build a town from scratch ingame.
but you can influence how a town grows. a town expanded in the direction of high traffic, thats why around trainstations are a lot of houses. when you build lines to inhabitated lands they start to expand in that direction. at least works with bus and trams. so thereticly you could start a "new" town(not realy a new town) when you make a long street, put there some bus stops, make an line there and wait some time to let the town expand in that direction(probably very long, i don't know, didn't tried it). When you are satisfied with it, demolition the buildings between the end and the start, but let some buildings at the end. technically these houses count to the starting city, but you could handle them like there own. at least theoretically.

I would like that aswell. Then you can expand a city at the rate you want it to grow, and manually zone everything. Although, when adding stuff like this, this game could become more of a city building game. (Like Cities: Skylines) And I'm pretty sure that is not what the developers are aiming for.

Thanks guys for getting back to me. Chatastroph.. I tried the method you described but it took sooo long that there really isnt any point unless you wanna play a seriously long game. Again tho thank you... i guess i will have to keep enjoying the game and quash my control freak tendencies :)

+1 From me, I'd like to be able to create cities from scratch but being easier laying out the streets in perfect spaces and streets that don't go crazy to the left or right when you want to drag them straight!
atm when I start a game I pause and use the no cost mod to destroy and rebuild all cities in better layout rather having strange streets that go all the directions.

There is so much that could be done with this game. Thats why i like it so much... but i could really be doing with more control over the cities. Its impossible to plan for massive people and cargo hubs.. but like i say its just a small dissapoimntment in an otherwise s%"thot game :)

me too alphaprior also how can there be too much slope coming of a bridge onto flat land lol... i have some seriously contoted bridges on one of my games lol

I will start my 3rd game today I really have to plan different and big this time with cities and stations, cause I want to have the rails being under road bridges that can be placed easily with no issues later.
Also when you want to upgrade stations apart from missing passengers and cost to destroy building nearby for some terrain reasons you can't upgrade!
So I will build most of them deep, (high would be great). A good idea for mod stations with underground rails or raised stations where you can have rail bridges going in/out the cities.

You guys need to stop thinking it's a city builder. At best you can manipulate how towns grow in the form of stops, stations and road placement. Via modding you can do more.

@Skiwee
nobody said it's a city sim but simple road placement is terrible if it was better implemented then we could design better cities not actually build them but set the layout with streets and avenues
therefore better easier tram routes and in general better developed cities.
The cities I have redesigned are bigger and provide hundreds of passengers compared to free planned ones that are smaller with less passengers.

I agree alpha..... I like the way the game plays at mo... but more control over the towns/cities growth would add to the game.... not to make it a city builder but to make it a world builder.
