But I'll say TF is better because Cities Skylines is too sandboxy for me. CS is too easy and there's no way you can fail. With TF you have to pay attention cause if you build your lines wrong you can mess up your whole game.
For me, I much prefer this, as great as Skylines is.
I could sink far more time into Skylines if it actually offered a challenge, if you were at significant risk of ending up bankrupt with a derelict ghost-town... but that's not the core leaning of the game, and there's only so much joy I can get from making pretty towns and tweaking traffic flow.
Neither is objectively "better"... because, well, what does that even mean?
Things said above about TF is more challenging .... well currently on a hard game ... on gigantic game ... started 1850 ... now 2123 .... making 25 mil a year.
The fun is gone a little ... can build whatever i want .... a train line between 3 cities every year ... gaining more income by doing so. In 2123 you only have a few options with vehicles. So i always pick the best ... meaning i jave only 2 types of trains ... 1 type of truck and 1 type of bus. Cities are exploding and can not control traffic.
Also there is a LOT possible with
Mods in skylines ... sure that will come in tf also over time. And in skylines ... once you think you are ok ... growth needs you to adapt stuf. Rearange strets ... manage traffic ... etc etc.
Like i said ... now 20 mil a day :-( nothing to rearange .... just expand without challange. I go for the 1 bil trophy ( 346 mil now ) and back to skylines again i'm affraid
Neither is better than the other, since they are two completely different genres.
Having said that, the next DLC due for C:S will include a free scenario editor and with that everyone will be able to create and share defined conditions and then it will become a 'game'. Speaking of sharing, with more than 100k custom content for C:S in the Workshop, it is by far the more customisable of the two titles.
If you're asking in order to make a purchase decision, then I'd say get both. Get TF if you like transport and production chain management and get C:S if you enjoy creating.
You can and will fail multiple times before you know how to layout your roads.. (aka no/very little congestion)
If OP says he likes transportation managment, TPF will be the choice. If he says city building, CS is the choice.
Just creating lines ... the micro man is only to get the number of vehicles just right for max proffit.
Same items wanted in every city ... just create the lines.
I think skylines has way more micro management in place.
Train tracks are basic ... not simwise. Trains magically reversing at stations ... signals are basic etc etc etc.
A game mixing Skylines and Tf would be the perfect balance .... ad some ai to compete ... even drivable trains to cover trainsim ... that would be a best seller .... now its mediocore at best
No, please no. I don't want to deal with hospitals, police, power and sewage! For me, setting up lines and assign vehicles is more than enough and enjoyable.
There is a reason why I play a TRANSPORTATION game and not city builder!
Skylines has LINES also ( train / bus / tram /airplane / subway ).
You can add vehicles to LINES also ... exactly the same.
Line a to b ... 5 busses .. lets add 1 more because of pax waiting ....
cargo station .. pax station ... transport oil .. wood ... farm ..... the same !!!
BUT ..... with extra's ( traffic .. energy etc etc etc ) ...
so ALL i am saying is that the management part of skylines is way more challenging ( and a lot of mods that makes i incredibly hard and even allow you to program traffic lights for EXAMPLE )
Now my TF towns in 2123 are jammed with traffic .... no traffic lights ..... not much i can do ... adding a second parallel road does not solve. There is more in transport then just creating a line from point a to b ... and done. I have a train connection between 4 cities ... and only had to adapt a few things on it in 100 years ( adding 1 train and making the 3 trains longer ) ... no management at all. it runs smooth and creates huge revenue ... thats it. Certainly not hard ball or mathematical.
Like stated above .. i now make 25 mil a year. I can build a profitable train track between 3 cities EVERY year now. Not funny for me ( on hard on the gigantic map ). Things would be more challenging when a town on the left side of the map only needs building material ... and on the right side of the map only needs oil ( for EXAMPLE ) ... now every town needs the same.
Guess what .. 25 mil a year with JUST :
* 2 train PAX lines ( one connecting 4 and one connecting 3 towns )
* 3 food circles with truck
* 1 Fuel circle by train
* a few bus lines to feed the stations
* a few truck lines moving Fuel to other towns
THATS IT ..... 25 mil a year on hard !!!
So where is the challenge now ? The only challenge is that traffic has come to a halt and i can not change ..... aaaaaah not important ... because i make 25 mil anyway ... lets build 50 more train lines using the same 2 trains types :-( .... I
Is my new challenge making 1 billion a year by filling the map ??
Well .. not possible because i see what the above setup of lines is doing to the performance of the game. I guess if i add the same setup 2 times more on the gigantic map .... frame rate would not be to funny also on my 2200 euro i7 SSD game machine :-(
Do not get me wrong i like TF .... but it could have been WAY ... WAY ... better in my opinion ... and i hope mods and updates will change a few things soon.
