Increasing game speed
Is there any way to increase game speed? I'm doing the first scenario, the one with the Gothard Tunnel construction, and it seems I just have to wait very long for things to happen. I understand taking it easy, and I understand trains run slower in 1889, but this is just not fun.

Stupid question coming up...

You have tried using the 4*speed at the bottom right hand corner of the screen (or tab a couple of times)...

Yes, I have. Sorry I forgot to mention that :)

Even at the max speed, the game moves very slowly.

I'm afraid that's your only recourse...
What many people do is to fill in that wiating time by planning out their next build while waiting for the profits - look around the map and see what you can exploit next.

Edit:
You can also try pre-empting the scenario by building towards the cities on the map on both sides of the mountain.

True, that's exactly what I did. But the bottom line is that at some point it's going to get boring, and this could be so easily solved by adding another speed setting.

Fortunately, there are only a few campaigns where you have to play the 'wait' game so much.. Unfortunately, some of them are the first campaign in each set. Pre-1900s is generally when the greater wait to earn profit happens, etc.

One option is to tweak the setting (in possibly the base_config.lua... unfortunately can't check) that changes the simulation speed. The default is 2000ms or 2 seconds per day. If you change this to 1000, time will pass at a rate of 1 second per day, and then you can max speed it to further increase how quickly you get through the mission.

The change will affect individual payments (they'll be doubled), but the overall income per year will balance out since time passes twice as fast. Speed of vehicles won't change though, and production numbers will probably look a bit different than normal, because it will scale depending on the time scale you use.

If you want a slower experience you can increase this number to 8000 or 8 seconds per day. There are also mods for this, but you can't use the mods in the campaign, but you can make tweaks in the game files directly, and have them affect the game.

I know this is like 5 years old, but I have been trying to find a way to speed up the game, and I couldn't find it in the mentioned base_config.lua, I have been looking elsewhere, but either I'm blind or I'm looking in all the wrong places...

If you want to speed the game as in stuff in the map traveling faster, you cannot do that, and even if you could, you would not be able to use it for long due to performance issues.

If you just want to speed up the time/date progression, you can use this mod:
