I DON"T WANT INDUSTRY!!!
Been trying for weeks to figure out how to create a map with no industry--or just the minimum 2 industries, or whatever I got to do..

NO ONE KNOWS???

Of course SOMEONE knows! I can download maps iwth NO INDUSTRY!

So, who's gonna be the first to post a reply with some script lines that make no sense, without explaining the parameters--and probably in German?

B/C I'm tired of randomly editing map.lua files with someone's unexplained script code only to find industry ALL OVER THE MAP, or a game crash. I have no idea where to put it in the script, I have no idea if I have enough { { } } { }}} {{{]{, etc.

INDUSTRY PLACEMENT IN THIS GAME IS HORRIBLE!!!! It's THE worst aspect of this game!

If you have the Industry Tycoon mod enabled, you don't need industry and, SHOULD ALSO have a way of getting rid of industry THAT MAKES SENSE!!!

Someone PLEASE EXPLAIN IT!

I don't know how to remove them altogether. But fiddling with the industry per area setting in the config, it would seem that there is a minnimum spacing on industries (which appears to be roughly 1 industry per 0.5km-1km squared), and there is also a minnimum amount of industries placed of 10 on maps of size small and up.

So to get the fewest number of industries per given area using this config setting you would want to play on the largest size map you can with a really high number placed in the config (such as 10000). Why the minnimum is 10 industries rather than something less arbitrary, such as one of each type of industry, is rather curious.

You can get below the 10 industry limit if you also change other map generation settings in the config file so as to make the terrain much rougher and/or increase the amount of water covering the map. Just using this method I have generated maps with as little as 2 or 3 industries as I recall. But what you end up with exactly will be up to RNG.

I understand your explanation, and it makes sense: the higher the value, the larger the "cell" or "area" an industry occupies. I can work with that in scripts that already have the values. What I don't understand is how and/or where to add the lines to files that don't have them. the formatting appears differently in different map configs.

I found the area per industry in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Transport Fever\res\config\base_config.lua

Yeah, bud, I've known that for years.

The problem is the placement of those industries is horrible. they are the wrong types in the wrong place. Thankfully you can enable a "build industry" icon in the config files or subscribe to the "Industry Tycoon" mod AND BUIILD YOUR OWN INDUSTRIES!!!

What I don't understand is how to edit the config files to limit the amount of industries generated on a map. They can't be deleted. They suck. And there's no simple explanation. It's like the unicorn of TF--people have seen it, they've even achieved it, but there's no simple way to explain how to do it.

People make maps without Industries so that you can use a mod like Industry Tycoon to place them more strategically by yourself where you want them.

Then you have people like me that not only do that but then detail these industries so they look somewhat impressive to boot and a real feature of the map itself then. (Take a look at some of my screenshots or YouTube Videos).

Shouldn't each industry have a entry in the map config? just delete it.

The random map generator requires a minimum of one industry!

I thought there was a config option now to disable initial industries (don't have time to search for it now)

There is, but it still requires a minimum of 1 industry enabled... For the most part, it works the same as a filter but can now be added to a script mod.

OK - Thanks for the info.
