How to build a large town?
I saw a lot of people having large towns with 10000+ population. It seems to be impossible for me because I basically had every thing in a town and it stays 3000 pop by the year of 2000.

Any good way to boost population?

people with large towns either edit the config file to boost growth or play till the year 3000-4000. But make sure you have bus lines, airport and train passenger service. Plus try to get every product to your city.

In this game, usually only fast passengers will use the airplane. It's possible that cheap passengers will use planes, but if it's the only option available within their budget range.

My biggest City has 11.500 -12.500 People in the year 2130 .. the city ist connected with longrange Trains to 8 other Citys and this 8 Citys (6000-7000 people) are connected regional with 2 ore 3 little villages (3000-5000 people)
The city has an Airport with routes to 5 ore 6 other Citys .. I deliver all Goods with only 25-30%

Near the Airport a new High Speed Trainstation with 4 TGV Routes to Citys with the greatest distance to the Capitolcity.

I use no Eddits ore Add Ons .. only Buildings Trains Cars Bridges and such things from the workshop

It is possible to build such great Citys without cheating!

I maintained the airport for like 20yrs and no one come to take it. They choose to take water routes instead.

do you build the airport right by the city or somewhere easy to build? because if you build it away from city no one come to take it.

Did you extend passenger lines (bus/tram/train) to connect with the airport? That is, do you have passenger stations next to it?

yes of course, doesn't change much. lucky if they could fly one plane per year

You need more passenger connections with planes (and boats) than with other modes. But you're city may still be too small.

% passenger-line usage will have most influence on city growth and growth happens where there is traffic. Afaik it does not matter if these are inner- or inter-city or even different lines or modes of transport. Even a single line with plenty stops and a good frequency might get you near 100% if there are no alternative options.
Same for airtravel. If there are alternative, maybe even faster options, why should anyone pay extra? Either use it as an only option or make sure that there is a lot of difference in travel time. Travel time is not just the speed of the aircraft...
You can find plenty more specific threads on both topics.

3000 people by 2000? Holy crap. All my 1850 games that I hit that year with have like 500-1300 people by then. Guess I have a lot to learn.

If growth is your goal then it's pretty vital to try to connect cities as fast/soon as possible. Simple buslines will do, and basically it doesn't really matter that much how much how efficient they are, as soon as you connect cities, growth will be triggered.

So getting 4k - 5k cities around 2000 is pretty easy that way, but on the other hand, you might not even want to grow that many cities too big as this will eat into performance. Personally i try to get a few 'capitals' per map (on very large maps 4 or 5 of them) which i try to give as many connections as possible.

You should make sure every city is connected in a large map under normal difficulty by the year of 1970. And make sure every city is provided with at least one of each goods from commercial and industrial. Your first cities in the game should be having 3000 pop very easy.

Do you mean less train on the route for air travels?

The first thing I do is usually connect all cities with bus lines. I also do 1+ lines within each city, as well as alternate routes connecting clusters of cities to other clusters. All of this happens pretty fast, like well before 1900. I also get industry rolling pretty hardcore. My current game is year ~2050 and my biggest town is only 1300 people... Every city has several passenger lines in/connecting as well as access to all 6 types of goods. Though, I am playing a small map currently. Is such growth possible without mods or is what you guys are talking about some kind of mod? (or native to large maps and just not small?)

EDIT: Here is a picture to show some infos more directly, any tips?

I've had most of this set up for ~100 years now and just been tweaking and refining it. I can't seem to get the line usage up much higher though for some reason. I haven't cracked that one yet, is that what's screwing my growth?
