Cargo Hubs?
I finally managed to create a successful company, which is profiting. But I wonder something.
At the moment, I distribute the resource to the cities from where it is created. For instance, a construction material is distributed from the factory itself.
Is it possible to create a distribution center, where bread, construction materials and fuel to be stored and distributed? What I am planning to do is distribute the resources to the distant cities with the train.

Absolutely. That's the only way I do it now. Here's a tip. Put two large stations next to each other, one passenger and one cargo. Deliver all cargo from the factories to the passenger station where it'll be transferred to the cargo station. Then you can set up lines from the cargo station to transport to your cities.

I am sorry pat, but I did not understand you. I thought passenger stations can't accept cargo.

passenger stations can be used to deliver cargo but they cannot be used to load cargo onto trains.

Okay, I thought I'd do a little experiment. So, I want to transfer livestock. I want to take them from farm, to a truck station near the train station so that train can load them. But trucks do not carry anything to the truck station. Why is that?

One oddity to the game that we all love is the ability to deliver cargo to passenger stations and vice versa. However, the passenger station cannot store cargo. Therefore, there's got to be someplace within the passenger station's catchment area for the cargo to land, such as a cargo train/truck station, or even a building that demands that cargo. So if you've got the two stations next to each other and a fully-loaded train pulls into the passenger station, you'll see the transported cargo show up in the adjacent cargo station when it's unloading from the train.

Regarding your second issue with the livestock problem, my first thought is that you inadvertently used the wrong type of station. I do it all the time. However, complex lines can be tricky to set up if you're going to have multiple transfer locations getting cargo from here to there. I assume that the final destination for the livestock is a food factory. But even if you have everything set up right, it often takes a while for the entire chain (livestock -> commercial building) to get in sync and running properly.

It just needed to sync I guess.
I am having more problems though. Trucks are loading from the station near the train station. This was an issue before the train as well. I don't know how, but there's food in the steel factory.
Can I prevent trucks from loading from a station?

No. Lots of people want that. The best thing you can do is to use specific cargo types when buying vehicles. If you buy boxcars with automatic cargo, then they'll be able to carry food as well as anything.

Pat, could I ask you to take a screenshot of that station from the other side as well? I'd like to see how everything connects from all angles.

Thanks.

Yeah I was gonna ask for that too. My setup looks like a huge mess.

Sure thing. I've played a little more on this map since the last shot.

Pat - Impressive setup there... thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Pat. That's helpful.

@pat why is it important that it's a passenger station? Wouldn't a cargo station work as well?
pkoko Apr 2, 2017 @ 10:57am
@pat-- can you post the savegame file?

Why wouldn't you use a dedicated cargo line and passenger line with 2 seperate stations? Why drop all cargo to passanger station with available cargo tracks?
Tossi Apr 2, 2017 @ 11:48am
Because passenger station prevent the train from getting loaded at the station. Game will make cargo travel any route it can find especially ones you didn't intent it to travel so to fight that you use passenger stations where you want to only unload.
