Double Tracks (one-way)
I have a loop (passenger) with four tracks I want to setup two of the tracks to go one-way and the other two tracks to go the opposite way. To maximize this setup I would like to have all trains use both tracks going one-way and both tracks going the opposite direction. So far I can only get the trains to use one or the other tracks (not both) in either direction. I see that one-way signals and way points will have to be used but once set-up I should be able to add has many trains on each side. Has anybody completed this before?

Use crossover or diamond junctions to pair the tracks. Then add waypoints and oneway signals.

Then place lights at intervals to split the tracks into workable blocks.

Trains from the same line will never be able to utilize both rails going in the same direction. At least not in a dynamic way where the trains choose themselves which one they think is best. If the lines' path only requires one rail for one direction than all trains on that line will only use that one rail.

The method I suggested allows multiple lines to use 2 tracks in the same direction. Each line will lonly use 1 track, however, by using the two tracks and forcing the direction each line follows at junctions you can have more trains run on the two tracks.

Currently I have 4 trains running up 2 and down the other 2. As I want to give priority to 1 line I have that line exclusively uses most of 1 track. On the return journey it shares the track with another line that has only a few trains. That way the very long coal train can hurry to dump its cargo. Since the coal is the first part of the chain that feeds the other goods trains it is crucial to keep the coal moving. But I have enough time between 2 coal trains that a small delay caused by sharing teh return track will not be noticed at the coal mine, so demand keeps high.

One of the goods trains has a much longer run to make. So I give that priority over the other 2 goods trains by letting it have priority on another of teh 4 tracks. This method keeps the goods moving fast enough that the station does not get clogged up and cause a loss in production.

It is easier to do this by splitting the 4 tracks into 2 up and 2 down. Difficult junctions or slow sections are handled by allowing trains in both directions to share small sectionms of the inner 2 tracks. This does mean that some trains have to wait at lights, but the Coal keeps moving ;)

Using waypoints and 2 way signals allows muti directional swapping of the tracks when needed. 1 way signals forces leaving sections of track free from dynamic wandering.

I have no doubt what you are describing does what you want it to do. However I don't think that is what the OP had in mind in his inquery. As I understand it he is trying to have a single line where the trains on the line choose individually which rail to use based on which one happens to be free at the time. But the game does not allow for that.

As the OP is making 2 loops it is easier to set up than my own multifreight lines. You may be correct, the OP may think you can let the trains choose but I did not read that in his post. All it takes is to tell one line to go up one track and down another and by using waypoints and crossovers it can be easily achieved. I set up a TGV loop to do just that. I had the normal passenger service stop at each station in the loop but the TGV only stopped at each end, plus one station near the middle. To reach the midway station I used another crossover and used lights to force the normal service trains to give way to the TGV.

I don't believe he has more than one loop. He made no mention of any other lines sharing the tracks. It seems implied that he wants the trains from the same line to utilize both rails going in the same direction. But I could be mistaken.

It is possible for one line to use two tracks. I have just posted on http://steamcommunity.com/app/446800/discussions/ a way to set it up between station A to B. It could be replicated on a loop, just keep the tracks seperate and allocate trains to one track or the other.

Trains are tied to the line it uses(path), so if you have 4 trains tied to one line, they will always use the same route/track you have set up.

Trains set to a line will go by the same destinations but could use completely different tracks as long as those tracks never connect.

In theory you could let them in drive in opposite directions (on a loop line with one way tracks). Although one direction will be very inefficient.
